  • FSX 2018 is very good

I got FSX 2018 yesterday. I am very new to FSX, but I can say for sure the graphics difference from FSX to FSX 2018 is huge. I was not impressed with the graphics in the old version. I even own the expensive courses, and the graphics were marginal. FSX 2018 is a huge difference in the graphics quality! I would say the included courses graphics are about as good as TGC, and the expensive courses look even better than TGC. I am extremely impressed with the graphics quality with FSX 2018. I have not spent enough time to tell you about other features added or upgraded.

I am wondering if the Jumping Brook Country Club or The Pete Dye Course, which seemed to be just released are optimized for this new upgrade. I agree with Ryan5508 that it is definitely not a new engine, and they have said the graphics will be noticed on course updates or available as created, which is ambiguous. It does look like one of their engineers found the contrast setting or deferred lighting setting in programming, which all softwares already have, and decided to work it in as an upgrade. Probably got a promotion!

Just go to their website then put /updates and it will bring you to all the courses that can be downloaded. There might be a couple more that you have never heard of. Just goes to show you how little they put into marketing their software!

Seems to be a few new ones on the Foresight Courses page too that you can watch a one hole flyover. It’s the first time I’ve looked in few weeks, so maybe their not brand new?

Oh yeah, that's where I usually check. Not sure why I didn't think of that. I tried to get Onwentsia but they hadn't given them rights to use it yet. Begs to question why it's on the DL site though. There is very little marketing with courses that is for sure. Makes you wonder why they cost so much doesn't it?

Here’s a answer I got from support about swing cameras
Regarding the questions you had about swing cameras…

We sell a very basic proprietary USB swing capture video camera that integrates directly into our FSX simulation software. It mounts to a side wall or we can mount to a tripod for mobility. This integrates video footage of each swing taken to appear in all 3 modes of the FSX software. The video clips start/stop automatically with each swing and will be saved to your player profile on the Cloud.

Point Grey are also supported but it depends on the model. Most of the Grasshopper 3 are high res (1920 X 1080) and unless you have a top end gaming rig (+$4K cost) the computer can’t support the heavy graphics and 1080P real-time video.

These are the two specific models that are both 640x480 and work well with FSX:

    Flea3 0.3MP Color GigE Vision (Sony ICX618)
    FL3-GE-03S1-C
Teledyne FLIR IIS designs, develops, manufactures, and distributes industrial-grade tech that enhance productivity and development.

    Blackfly 0.3MP Color USB3 Vision (Sony ICX424)
    BFLY-U3-03S2C-CS
Teledyne FLIR IIS designs, develops, manufactures, and distributes industrial-grade tech that enhance productivity and development.

Higher resolutions are *technically* supported in FSX, though performance may be affected.

I just messed with the cameras and it is certainly much better than it used to be. It even works with my IDS camera, and last I tried FSX did not. Now if I can only figure out how to rotate the picture. I need my cam rotated how it is.

Do you get anymore control over exposure? My IDS camera works fine in IC Capture but in FSX the best I can get is like 8 fps, so useless.

I have not played around at all with it, but it shows that mine is getting 71 fps.

Actually, I was thinking of my Image Source camera, not IDS. I haven't tried the IDS camera yet as it's on a different computer.

I'm guessing that you will need a 2.0 or higher version to fully benefit from FSX2018. I think there maybe some benefits ( color/contrast ) on all the 1.9x courses but to get all the benefits they will be 2.x. We really won't know until FSX2018 is actually released. They don't seem to be posting the new version which isn't very scaleable and just confirms it isn't ready.. Seems like a royal pain to send each customer links to the new versions but that's what it appears to be at this point. I'm thinking about pulling the trigger so I can do some videos of the free courses but it maybe a waste of time since I don't believe the new trees are in there yet. It would be like doing videos on interrum courses. Who knows how long it's going to be before the full library is updated.

Got the upgrade going yesterday. The new trees aren't in there yet... At least not in the 2 new 2.0 courses I tried, so I assume that's consistent right now. And you are correct, they are sending each customer links to the new versions. 2 of my courses haven't been upgraded yet. I would really like to get 2 cameras set up and integrated, but that doesn't sound promising. I'm feeling like I should just buy 2 new GoPros which have voice activation or an available wristband remote. I think I can get 1080 at 240fps on the new ones.

Any idea which lens? The body is around $377 here:

Not sure how much the lens they include is.

$995 looks way too high. Buy the body and add the lens you need depending how far your hitting area will be from camera. Buy a cheap mount and Usb3 cable, probably save $400 on foresight’s price.

              • Hey guys. I think we all can agree, that software from Foresight unfortunately is a joke (plus their pricing tactics and update policy are borderline). Looking at Trackman software, it feels FSX is 10 years behind. Since most of us use the GC2 also to practice, I think it is especially annoying, that even the most basic features of Trackman are missing in FSX. Having a few required KPIs in the view (and being able to adjust that), a decent smartphone/ipad camera integration via bluetooth, a decent camera / range split screen....etc......etc.....etc.

Since we are all "stuck" with the (good) hardware, I would assume for me the main reasons to pay the FSX2018 ransom would be:
                - The dual screen mode - having the range on my hitting screen and the data/camera view on the TV screen to my side
                - A proper dual camera setup

Could anybody post some photos of how the dual screen setup actually looks like? How much is it possible to customize it (FSX show way to many things in one screen imho). Did anybody get the two cameras to work and could post how this looks in the software? (Would be great if FSX could integrate the "arrows" Trackman has for club path and ball flight on the camera picture.

                Best from Berlin

Aha. So lets wait then. I am totally not getting why they even release FSX2018 if it basically is just an regular update with one new course and a few different lighting setting in the same engine......

                  Which course is new?

              • I'm starting to think all the updates or mostly all will not be available until Summer. They are not afraid to take the upgrade fee well before the "new" software is complete. I know this because I preordered FSX when it was announced and they sat on my 1K upgrade fee for over a year. BTW, when FSX was first rolled out, it was unplayable for 6 months. That being said, I will obviously upgrade when it is complete, but I could be dead by then.
And graphically being behind about 10 years is about right. I like others know this and do actually like the playability and ease of set up.

When I originally asked about FSX2018 I was told that it was a free upgrade and that the interface was customisable for corporate customers. The interface in the pictures was one for a specific client.

Since then, FSX2018 is a chargeable update... so there’s no saying that the interface info wasn’t a load of rubbish too!

                • I was told recently by Forsight that these updates are coming by the end of this month.

                  • Can someone explain to me how a tent stake with reflective tape is worth more than a Li-Io Battery? Seriously, who prices this shit? Or is that a typo and it should be $15?

Thank you for the responses. I’ve tried some DIY solutions; and I’m not throwing in the towel just yet. My last “official” batch was purchased from Par2Pro. They were very different from the OEM stickers FS described in their instructions. The ones I purchased didn’t have the crosshair marks for aligning with the grooves, nor the “pull tabs” for ease of application. I trust that everything Par2Pro sells is legit. I just figured FS cheaped out and went with a more generic approach (which I’m sure they did). Now this. Looks like it might be the ONLY OEM option at this point. It’s like buying a car from a dealer... you know you’re gonna walk away feeling like you donated a lung, but you’re excited about your new purchase for a little while; then it starts falling apart and you have to $#&@ out more money to keep it running. Loses its luster real quick.

Just noticed the sticker dispenser went up to $130.00. They must have heard how easy it is to use and that it didn't match their markup/margin scale of 1000%
