  • Fsx Play?

I have seen a couple of videos about new FSX Play software being in the works. Has anyone heard anything about when they are expecting to release this? Looks like it would be a nice upgrade to fsx2020.

  • I had planned on waiting to get Play until more the bugs were worked out. However, I wanted to work on my wedges for the next couple months (until it's nice enough to play outside around here) and I wanted to try Pitch and Putt with the new graphics. I thought I would develop more patience as I got older. Nope!

Play definitely has lots of bugs, but the graphics are pretty impressive. It really does make FSX 2020 seem pre-school level in that regard.

I have a 1660 Ti graphics card and I've never really heard it make a peep before. Using FSX Play, the fan was spinning so hard that I thought the computer might fly off! I've got an upgraded card on order now. Oh well.

I'll probably use FSX 2020 for most everything but pitch and putt for a while, until more of the bugs get worked out, but when most everything is sorted this Play version is going to be amazing.

    • Yeah, I'm done with Play until they fix the camera.

      • I spent a little more time with Play this weekend. Love the graphics, but a few of the issues make it pretty crappy from a useable view compared to FSX 2020. I'm not sure I will use play that often until it gets a bit more sorted out. Still, it has lots of potential. If they ever get Play working as well as 2020 works, it will be really nice.

Does anyone know what the timetable is for more full capabilities for Play? End of 2022?

            Thanks for the alert.

I did download the new version and tested the Room Configuration. Seems to work much better. Camera tile is still missing(in documentation but not in software). Haven't hit a shot yet but camera perspective looks better. Progress, slow but progress. :-)

        • After two rounds with 1.0.2.3, FSX Play is now my favorite golf sim software.
Doubt I will be using my other 3 sim subscriptions much.

        • Looks like they’ve fixed a couple of things, but nothing major.
It’s still absolutely full of bugs. Pretty much every one I reported is still there!

We’ve waited 4 weeks for an update, and it’s still like a BETA version.

I notice Foresight has 2x 5* reviews for FSX Play on their website and no others. My mate put a 2* review up the other day, and it hasn’t been published. Funny that!

Agree. Its a work in progress, slow progress. I like it but it still has a ton of potential(and flaws) which is so slow to come. Since we jumped we are in for the long haul and thankfully summer is coming. If its until March 24th when the next update is released a lot of us are going to lose our minds! I like the product but am disappointed in the speed at which it is being corrected and courses released. I want online play. I want to play four person scramble or team stableford. Come on Foresight lets go!

        • Here is the video I meant to release. 3 mins to watch a side by side comparison of FSX Play and FSX 2020. I thought you can really appreciate the differences in graphics and see that playability is almost identical given the similar shots hit. Enjoy and let me know what you think.

          • Great job on the video! Very helpful to see what I’m waiting for.
            Worth it!

            • Anyone with an hmt have a solution for fsx play recognizing it? Works fine in fsx 2020, but I’m getting ball only mode and when connected it just shows gc2..

I see same as you but I get limited club data still. Clubhead speed, AoA, etc. They need to get this up to speed with functionality/display of FSX 2020. I'd like to see the graphical display after my shot preferably on a second display.

            • I don’t think I’m getting any data unless it’s buried on another screen, nothing on the tiles. Just says ball only mode once it locks onto a ball. Yeah I agree they need to roll out basic driving range functions out first before devoting time to course conversions..

              • I must say I have a bit of a bitter taste on this one.

My story is I committed to buying a GCQuad on Decemeber 1 2021 by putting a 50% down payment on the full purchase price of the unit. My rep said I would have the unit in January 2022.

The GCQuad was ready for me to pickup on January 28th.

Now I "already" have to pay more money for the new software after I distinctly remember my rep verbally telling me future software upgrades would be free for the next version.

Also, the main reason I went with Quad was for the complete club and putter data. I dabble in some club fitting and figure this would be needed for the future as I get more serious. It's odd to me people have obtained the putter module for 50% off or even free. Why the discrimination?

Like I said, a bitter taste....

                • If the rep told you that you'd get the upgrade to Play for free then you should. Give them a chance, they are good people from my experience.

As far as putting, that's a whole other thing. Unless it's a promo, where putting is offered as a package with a new Quad, which they did once (I think only once) then those people would've gotten it. I've tried to get a deal on it with no luck and I don't have any need to pay that for putting...

By the way, you do get putter data, you just don't get the extreme data. It will read your putter well enough for most people's needs, I believe. The additional info is impact, skid, roll...I don't relaly remember.

                  • I did get the putter data on free promo when I bought my GCQ a few years ago. FWIW I don't think the Foresight people are unfair -- when you can reach them they are nice and they do try to help. They are just kind of overwhelmed by things other than building launch monitors.

                    • Couple of quick questions about FSX Play, apologies if this has been asked before. Does anyone know if the two free courses La Jolla Pines and now Del Monte that come with play , will be able to be played in FSX 2020?
Also when in the Paris driving range is it possible to move the green to set distances like in FSX2020. For example I like to practice a specific distance during warm up , say a green at 150 yards and look at carry and proximity to pin. You can do that in FSX 2020, but I try to set a 150 yard distance in the Paris range, it ends up close to the path and water.
                      Any help greatly appreciated.

                      • For some people, the license seems to work in both version and for others it does not, so it's a guess but theoretically, it should. It does not for me though.

For Paris, you can change what range you are using; you cannot move the green. BUT, if you change the range, then there won't be anything there at the 150 mark. That make sense? If you go and click "Setting & More" I think that's what it's called BEFORE starting the Paris Range, then click ADVANCED, then you have a decent number of choices for what you see in the Paris Range.

Ok, I'll go in there and give a better description:

Click "Settings & More" - > Setup -> Flat Range:
                        Practice Area: Flat Range
                        Tee: Driving Range
Pin: Hard (is what I like)

Then at 150 and everything other than like 295, you are on grass.

Here is a screenshot so you can see.

Also, once in the range, this is one of the few things you can change while practicing. If you click:

Relocate -> and then click the thing showing where you are on top, it brings up a window that allows you to change your range.

Also, just a note, you can right click the minimap just like in 2020, to drop in that spot and hit from there.

                        Hope this helps!

                        Cheers!
