So I have been using my CG2 for well over a year now, and still am happy with my purchase and the support form PT and TGC. I noticed when I hit todays posts the whole page was filled with problems with ST and everyone is still waiting to play one day. Just putting it out if you're on the fence you won't regret going with the CG2 it has more options right now and it works every time I turn it on.

Look for a used unit with the minimal Foresight software which has range, fit and one course. If you are just getting it to practice then being able to drop a ball anywhere on the one course, hit shots and collect data is far superior and a lot more fun then just hitting balls down a line on a range.

No way would I pick up the FS software it's too expensive.Originally posted by Ronsc1985 View PostLook for a used unit with the minimal Foresight software which has range, fit and one course. Ron, I agree with Mayassa. I have a GC2 and initially purchased the FS range and 1 course. I havent used their software in about 2 years. I always play TGC and about to move to PG. Keep in mind that you can use TGC and just rewind a shot if you want to keep hitting the same shot into a green for example. FYI - PG has a range. Finding a used GC2 with the FS software add-on will be challenging.

For those that haven't tried the PG range yet. It's a bit better than the typical range app where you bang balls out on to an open field that only has range markers.
The PG range area has multiple greens and water etc. strategically placed at diffrent distances from where you hit.
So you can use the overview map and set a target to be anywhere on the range including one of those greens.
Cool bonus feature if you select a green as your target is that it simulates the roll and bounce you get on greens as opposed to fairway.
What would be nice is some kind of statistics gathering, multi shot traces and other typical fitting app features.
But I guess that is possible enhancement for the future.
In addition there is the Foresight Android or iOS app. Not great but it does the job.
As for the TGC rewind feature, never tried it but it sounds very useful. How do you set it to a specific start position? Overhead map click or do you have to play the ball to the spot you want to practice from?

OK but is it possible to chose the spot by dropping the ball anywhere or do you have to turn on the auto rewind before you hit the practice shot? I think I have seen a video of it where it looked like you can at anytime in the game turn on the auto rewind and reshoot that shot as many times as you want and then turn it off to move on in the game as normal. If that is how it works it's great but what would be even better in my mind is to be able to play a course normally and if you do one of those fail shots. You enable auto rewind as a post operation and get to reshoot the shot you just did as many times as you want?

Yes, you can turn on auto rewind any time you like and reshoot as many times as you want. Then turn it off to resume the game. There is also a rewind (aka mulligan) you can use for fail shots.

I don't know about now but a year and a half ago when I purchased mine used on ebay there were plenty available and the price was maybe 500 more then a bare unit. I got a GC2, 8 courses. the fit and range software, a computer with a decent video card, a metal shield and some other stuff for less then 1K higher then the bare models were going for. The used prices seem to have dropped some but I would guess the same ratios would apply.Originally posted by Rambo View Post. Finding a used GC2 with the FS software add-on will be challenging.

$500 seems like a steal for 8 courses, when I say steal they took your money. So what part of the FS software is to expensive didn't you understand? That is half the price of TGC.
Or you work on your writing ability...
I got a GC2, 8 courses.

I got me some higher edumacation

I'm on the fence with the skytrak and a gc2. I only need it for driving range use and target practice. Looks like both are about equal with ball flight and distance. I like that the gc2 has replacement parts, not sure what will happen with skytrak. I don't know if I'd ever buy a used skytrak. I would have to only look at used gc2 model though, have to be 3,500 max..
Any other places to check besides ebay?

If you're looking into used GC2s. Call 2nd Swing. Google them, even if they don't have any GC2 adds up, they have some in stock/testing. They're not getting any more used ones in, that I know of though. So first come first serve.

Prices have gone up a bit since 3 months or so.
There seam to be a lot of interest lately in used GC2's. Guess why;-)
You don't need the Apple version. All the simulators will work without it and the Android app can be used for the range. Even if you are an Apple person you can pick up a dirt cheap Android tablet and use it for this only.
I have a Tegra shield tablet and it's amazing considering what I paid for it.
On top of that. If you have a proper sim room and a GC2 then you will probably never go to the range again, ever.

Yes, all their bluetooth's work (from last I spoke with them), most of them have terrible battery life though. Some are A models and some are not.
Unless they're down to their non-functional bluetooth models or something. But as of 3 weeks ago, all of them worked.

I was going to pull the trigger on the Skytrak but really like the GC2. I would prefer to get the GC2 now, rather than get the Skytrak and have to upgrade later when I want more. The issue I am running into is that I cannot find a price on the software.
Assuming I have all of the other components necessary, how much am I going to spend on the software to get a practice range and a few courses? I do not mind spending a few thousand more than the Skytrak but I need to be realistic in budgeting this. Every place I have inquired regarding used GC2s say that the software is not included. Is there a better place to inquire other than 2nd swing and online simulator websites?

Regardless if you have an ST or GC2, the smart move is to be a bit more patient.
The best range SW + a few courses is TGC or PG.
Right now I am leaning towards PG, but terms and conditions are not known yet. So patiently waiting while having a lot of fun practicing and playing with the PG beta release.

Bought the st a few weeks ago - I'm happy with it; other than the driver distances which seem very short. Cost is not my constraint but don't like throwing money away. Is GC2 worth writing off the C$3k I just spend on st and getting the gc2?

If you are happy with the ST then you should keep it and stay happy.
The whole sim software disaster will probably be resolved soon and then nobody will even remember why they where angry.
If you are OK to pay the 100$/y subscription then I do think ST range SW is much better than the GC2 iOS app that cost 50$. I have never tried FSX, but I would assume that range SW is very good. If you are willing to open up your wallet and let them rob you.
The reason I got a GC2 was due to short game accuracy and ST problem with picking up my wedge shots.
But if you don't have those issues then there is no need to change.
