Protee base pack vs skytrak

I had a Skytrak, an ES 16 and now a Protee base pack. I had some issue with Skytrak and low launch angle shots, but it sounds like much of that has been addressed and results have been improved since I had one. Overall, I thought the Skytrak did a good job with ball shot shapes and carry distances.

I wanted ball and club data, so I got my hands on a Protee base pack. I am still learning and trying to get the best out of it, but I have only had it a week. The setup is not that easy. There is a lot of info on this site and Protee's site, although much of it is years old and it's often hard to separate the wheat from the chaff. Also, the information on Protee's site is sometimes a bit out of date and from my point of view, may not show best practices. The default settings have not been that accurate, at least for me. What that seems to mean is to make the unit accurate, one has to know their numbers. Fortunately, I have Trackman, Flightscope, GC2, Skytrak, ES 16 and P3proswing data, so I have a fairly good idea what my swing, club distances and shapes look like. The numbers are getting better, still it is taking some time to improve results.

I want to ask a question related to this thread, I like brg1875 am toying with skytrak or protee. I think i am going to the protee as my set-up is in the basement however, I want to know if i can get away with the base pack to start and then add a camera/putting later. gene438 you seem to be the resident guru, i think I read somewhere that you don't use the putting sensor? I am happy to tinker for awhile to get it working but will go to skytrak if the base pack by itself is so so. BRG, did you pull the trigger yet, if so what did you get and are you happy with it? So in short, is the base pack 1 once set up viable for playing on tour/reasonably accurate? As always, thank you for the feedback.

Hey so I wound up going with the Skytrak since I have to take down and set up my sim every time I would want to use it.

As far as protee you can start without the putting sensor and it will be fairly accurate and get the job done. If the putting seems off or unrealistic then getting the putting sensor will only help.

Base pack without putting sensor is fine for getting up and running on tour.....in fact, you may be like me and be totally satisfied and never add the putting sensor. The guys that have it like it .... and I'm sure it adds some level of accuracy....but as I have always said, I find the system extremely accurate without the putting sensor.....

I am also debating this topic so I figured I would post in here as its the most recent thread.

I have an optishot today and looking to upgrade. I have it setup in my garage so I do have to tear it down each time unfortunately. I was pretty convinced I was going skytrak but the delay does bug me. Is that still an issue in TGC 2019?

I really want to move to more of a ball tracker from a club tracker like optishot. Everything I have read says ball trackers are more accurate. Does ProTee actually track the ball similar to the way a skytrak or GC2 does for example? Thats my biggest concern, I want it to be accurate and I am not a single digit handicap so I dont exactly know my specific distances. Its also been a pain having to tape my clubs, etc with the optishot, I dont really want to mess with that anymore if possible.

I like the putting sensor on the Protee as putting is a huge issue on Optishot.

Not really sure what direction to go at this point.

Skytrak delay has nothing to do with TGC2019, it's a hardware limitation. Protee does not track the ball the same way the Skytrak or GC2 does.

I had a Skytrak and now Protee. I found I got use to the delay fairly quickly, so it was not a major issue for me, but yes it does still have a delay. I use to have a P3proswing and thought it was fairly good.

I am new to Protee, so I am still learning how to use it. I have a base pack and plan to add a Horizontal launch angle camera soon. Protee does track the ball. It can track vertical and horizontal launch angles. There is also a setting in the interface that uses the vertical launch angle camera, and maybe the horizontal camera, data in the ball spin calculation. I don't think it measures spin, but improves the calculation with that data. I've tried it both ways and I would say it is more accurate with it on. I doubt it is as accurate as Skytrak's ball spin measurement, if the ball logo is aligned to the unit.

You have to know your numbers to get Protee accurate.

Just curious -- anyone out there between the mevo+ and the ProTee BP? What are your thoughts and which way are you leaning? I was mevo+ all the way, but with the ProTee BP it appears you get better putting.

I was in the same boat you are but with Protee vs skytrak. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the mevo+ reads club head path and face angle. The Protee does and so that's why I went Protee vs skytrak. I couldn't be happier and to me there isn't anything more important than club path and face. Also, Protee support is hands down THE best. Jamie PROTEE UK has helped me along relentlessly and I believe sells refurbished units at a good price. I have excellent reads all around especially with short chips and putts

The TGC base pack is best value for sure.
hcam is up to 3 degrees mm ore accurate than the ball track so for definitive ball path hcam is a must.
The newest interface version requires little to corrections unlike older versions.
Sensor mat should be square within your set up or corrections can be made to compensate if not square. This is mainly down to good set up.
The Protee data now with the latest interface is impressive.
If in doubt just ask.
There much good info here relative to times past but there have been some big changes.
