2014 Protee Online Golf Tour

The tour will start this Friday at the Blizzard championship and will end sometime in April at the final tour championship. There will be a tournament each week and a major at the end of each month. Which means we will have 3 majors and the last one being the tour championship. I will come up with a tour schedule soon.

We will use my Protee handicap system for now but if somebody knows of a better way or a more automated method(some program), please let me know.

I also need some ideas on how we should keep track of points similar to the Fedex Cup.

We are looking for a sponsor or sponsors for the tour or each tournament. If we get one, there will be prizes.

Another thing to work out is a tie for 1st during a tournament. How do you want to do a playoff? Head to head match play starting on hole 1, play the first 3 holes or last 3 holes (lowest NET wins - how are the holes handicap'd though?), ????

Good question. How about this. In case of a tie, head back to the 10th tee and play the last 9 holes. Divide HCPs by 2 and round down if needed. Then subtract your 9 hole HCP from your 9 hole score. Repeat the last 9 holes again if necessary.

lowering handicaps for the leaders is also another way for the players that may be behind to catch up and make it very competitive over the course of a season. It may be a situation where the leaders are playing to their established handicap, but the others may not be. Its kind of an equalizer. That way you have a consistent way to adjust peoples handicap - not just if they shot a couple of good rounds.
In this format, its not the score, but rather the points that matter and handicap adjusted accordingly.

I will chime in on the playoff scenario, I prefer sudden death or at the most a 3 hole playoff. More exciting and less time consuming assuming time differences between the people that are in the playoff. I am the biggest pain of course because I am the lone west coast guy. As far as the fed ex points go, I am in for whatever. But here is a suggestion that might help. Take both bubba and rambo's idea and tweak it so its a little simpler. Just assign the tournaments the points like bubba said, and then halfway through the season make one single handicap adjustment. That way its not so much work for whoever is trying to organize it. By the way zmax if you need help with something let me know.

Lowering handicaps for players as their point total increase will likely prevent a breakaway for a few players.
I assume we may also expect to have players that want to join in a month or two. This will allow them possibly the opportunity to catch up with the pack.

Just sharing my two cents. I am open to anything and onboard for what is ultimately decided. Golfing with good people - can't beat it.

Realistically, we probably won't have to adjust handicaps with the point system till half way through the season when a player reaches the 7 points anyway. In a perfect world, everyone is playing to their handicap and we have a mix of winners over the first 6 weeks or so.

The other option for ties if time is not possible is to determine the winner by retrogression. Sudden death would also be quick.

One question that I don't see an answer to. How many rounds in each tournament? 2 or 3?

Rambo has a good suggestion. I wish my home outside league did this that way the more people have a chance to win.

Yes adjusting the handicaps based on performance is a good idea. A would that be hard to keep track? May have to send you to accounting school! Lol! Rambo or anyone at that matter know a free software program to keep track of this?

Going to download it and try the evaluation copy. The cost is $40 for 20 golfers and $70 for 100 golfers for the standard editions. If it works well, I'll go with that and I'll hit up everybody for donations.
