  • Are we big enough for flights?

We seem to be getting darn good turn out week after week and I only see that getting better with the winter months approaching. I know we've discussed this in the past but we didn't really have enough players to have it work. I think we may be there now. Basically break groups up based on handicaps. Something like below. These number are arbitrary it would have to be built on the number of players per bracket.

    Gross +2 to -2

    Flight A -3 to -8

    Flight B -9 to -15

    Flight C -16 on up

This would probably add a good deal of administrative work and may not be worth it but I thought I'd throw it out there for discussion.

I think protee's suggestion is the best. Best of both worlds.

I like having two separate tours, with everyone automatically playing in both. I am sure the gross will have a handful of guys separating themselves by winning almost all the tournaments, which is fine. The net with the new handicap system really does make it possible for anyone to win, which should result in a much tighter race for the lead position and less of a gap between the top and bottom.

In the last tournament, the top 10 players were all within 4 shots over two rounds with handicaps ranging from -0.9 to +18.8. Half of those top 10 had a handicap below 5, so I'm not too concerned about high handicappers consistently dominating the net. There will be an occasional blowout, but if someone plays exceptionally well for their ability they should have a shot at winning. Plus, their handicap will drop and the field will level back out.

The end goal should be to make the tournaments fun and engaging for as many people as possible. Having more people playing will only improve everyone's experience.

I fully agree. 2 leaderboards is the way to go. We will count points and money for gross seperately and add some gross stats to the tour site for all to enjoy.

I now have to take my comment back tho. Obviously something wrong...almost looks like I didn't have the lowest round. Can't be right.

I also agree with andy and penrose, protee has got it figured out and the 2 leaderboards is a great idea.

I am one of those high handicappers and I couldn't agree more. This is why handicapping was instituted. Keeping it close and most importantly having fun.

Not to throw a monkey wrench in this but has there been any consideration to having age in these calculations. The reason I ask is my father (who certainly qualifies as a senior) is gearing up for his first go at TGC / Skytrak. We just got the install completed for him today and I believe I can get him to play on the tour but not sure if he would play or not. My question is Since there is no tee box forward location advantage on the tour or on handicapped courses should and could age be factored in?

We've never considered age given handicaps will help sort that out. Also, no one has ever asked. It's not on the radar to have a senior or even women's or even kids division.

Oh my son would LOVE to have a kid's division! Although hopefully soon he'll be competitive on an adult level. Still got some growing to do :-).

How will the rankings work if we have both net and gross? Does only the net score count for points and earnings?

Having two separate leaderboards should serve a great purpose.

However, players from roughly the 20th onwards on the gross board will all be tied at getting 20 points per tournament, tournament after tournament. The mid to lower portion of the gross board could become predictable and uninteresting. (e.g., after 5 tournaments, we might have half the players on the gross board all tied at 100 points each) Do we need to or want to see that? Should we trim the length of the gross board somehow, or limit gross board listing by tour HCP, etc. Some more discussion seem needed here.

I think it would be good if there was both leaderboards sepperatey and a gross tour leader and tour winner is awarded as well as a net leaderboard and tour winner. It's possible one guy could win both.

                      Hoping thats the plan.
