  • Online Profiles, Setting consistency and transparency

Is it appropriate or even possible to police the settings of all tour players???

    1. I think that the powers that be should decide the settings that should be consistent across all hardware systems and mandate that all players play by the same rules, (settings). I am thinking about Stimp, forgiveness, boost. etc. I think that only the universal ones should be mandated. I am not smart enough to know if this is possible or even wise!!! Just a thought. My thought is like when we had wind as an option and only some players turned it on, some did not. I even forgot once. This is simply so that we all play the same course conditions.

    2. Can we get all the names consistent between this forum and the Tour. When people post about their round and the names are different, I, cannot figure out what they scored. I know this is just me but I for example cannot figure out who is Main St golf. (Just an example, I am not trying to offend and I am sorry If I have.) If they want to keep separate names, put it under their Avatar where they post.

    3. Shot recording should be on for everyone for tour events. keither5150 suggested it, goatbarn seconded it, ProTee United United agreed. Me too. I do not care about non-tour events. This would create some transparency. Just like when you slow down when you see the Police cars, if you know what I mean.

This forum is great and the tour is so fun to play. Now that it has grown so much in the last year we may need to set some rules. Sure it is all for fun and we should keep it that way. I may be a lone voice on this. If so, I am ok to keep playing as it is.

    Just my 2 cents.

Fully agree. We have no control over wind. Everyone should switch wind off or accept the disadvantage. This is the responsibility of the tour player.
We do collect the boost factors and other adjustments but we will only look into this when there are really serious doubts reported by multiple players.

All tour players should turn on shot recording.

What would an acceptable boost level be for a Senior on Skytrak? Not me but my old man GIJack. IRL he seems to hit anywhere between 170 - 220. On TGC with the driver boost up to 7 he is driving around 160. I am still trying to convince the old man to play in the tourneys but he knows that the longer courses are going to kill him due to lack of distance off his driver and woods.

I totally agree. I have no idea if I have shot recording turned on though, where is that setting? I've been able to save some approach shots that I holed out on..

I'd like to add that the stopping your round when you are playing like crap is basically cheating. I've seen some folks mention that and I was like wth? If something comes up and you have to stop in the middle of a round that is one thing but making that decision based on play is just wrong. Not much any one can do to police that but it falls under the basic ethics of this game. If you can't do it IRL why do you think it's ok on a sim tour? We don't have rain delays!!

When you first start up TGC you will see the dashboard. On the dashboard you will have..... My profile, Server started, Start game, my settings, my license, Close. What you need to do is stop server, then you will be able to click on my settings. It will bring up a config file in Notepad. There you can change Shot Recording from =OFF to =ON Click to close the config file. Windows will ask you if you want to save the file before closing. Click yes.

Keither5150 - stopped server as you instructed. But my settings still not accessible. Any advise? Makes a lot of sense to have shot tracker on.

ignore - I figured it out. shot tracker now on

For those who are interested these are my settings, ball speeds have all been adjusted down so that I end up with correct ball speed readouts (per trackman and ES12) and drag has also been adjusted downwards to give me my IRL carry distances, no other adjustments to defaults have been made other then greenside bunkers have been set to a 40% reduction as required. As far as turning shot tracking on I'm all in favour of that, I believe it is in my"my settings" when you first launch TGC, and I will be happy to do but I would like someone to show me how to pull the data into an exel file.

could you post a higher resolution image of your drag and ballspeed settings? I can't make out some of the numbers. i copied your settings from one of your posts a while back but it looks like these are a little different. maybe tweaked for better accuracy?

Since all touring players should turn on shot recording, can we include that in the instructions for the tour???

I have the Shot recording option turned on but not quite sure what exactly it does! Why wouldn't it be in by default?

Shot recording allows people to see if you're cheating.

how is it possible to cheat? What exactly does shot recording do as Boerdoc asked? I have never played the tour yet so I don't understand how it all works yet.

I agree shot recording should be turned on.

If you take extra rewinds it will show that. If you do that you would lose credibility and all respect. Golf is all about personal integrity and yet the internet lends itself to secrecy.

Let's not all get carried away with the "lose all credibility and respect" part. There are some sims that occasionally have misreads. With the ProTee sensor that is well documented.

I do not shy from using the "re-wind" feature during tournaments if it is warranted. It could be something as simple as your own shadow triggering a phantom putt, to a clear misread by one of the launch cameras where the ball fires off at a crazy angle - except when my bad shot caused the ball to fire off at a crazy angle... .

I also re-wind the 300+ yard drives caused by misreads of the swing speed and ball speed.

There is no "secrecy" with shot recording turned on, however there can be wild conjecture about those using re-winds. What is an "extra" re-wind?

aja , You are correct. I am very sorry about that. There is a need for rewinds. I should have said "excessive" or "frequently above normal" or something that would indicate someone taking advantage of the system. For the last 10 tournament, I have taken on average1-2 rewinds on protee. This is my normal. My intent behind this thread was and is to equalize the playing field by having everyone do the same thing, same settings, etc.. It is not to cast any criticism on those who follow the rules correctly.

Hey, Boerdoc no offence taken. I found myself doing some doubletakes in my second round today. Was playing miserably but on two consecutive solid drives my horizontal camera gave out readings of 8 degrees left and 12 degrees left. On the screen the ball just shoots off in the wrong direction unrelated to your hit. I rewound those shots. Happens sometimes with ProTee.

While I may wind up on the adjacent fairway sometimes, it should be because of a bad shot, not a misread.

        Just in case:

The settings file contains a section [TGC Online].
        Here you will find:

        Shot Recording=OFF
        USER ID=<YOUR USER ID> eg. AAAA-1234-CCCC-5678-EEEE

1] Turn on Shot Recording, save the file.
        Shot Recording=ON

        2] Copy the USER ID.

3] Edit your Forum user profile and paste the USER ID in the field: TGC User ID.

4] Edit the field TGC Nickname in your forum user profile. Make sure its EXACTLY the same as the nickname you use in TGC.

5] Save you forum profile and hit a couple of test shots on a random course.

Very cool to have all that data, it appear that is doesn't show putts if you've hit to the green and ended up inside gimmie range? Is that correct? But does seem to show gimmies if you were putting to get there.

Do we need to make sure we are selecting the proper clubs we are using? I'll be honest, I have shot recording turned on, however, I'm not changing the clubs from what TGC shows. So for example if it says I'm supposed to be using a 7-iron and instead I punch out of trees with a hybrid I'm not switching to hybrid before my shot. Or if it says 3-iron and I'm using a hybrid in the fairway, etc. If I need to start doing this I will make a concerted effort to do that. I'm just so used to it not mattering that I haven't given it any attention. I've had several strokes that have cost me due to the funky putting, which is also an issue I'm seeing on JNPG, but since nothing is really on the line I just accept it gripe under my breath for a minute or so and move on :-).

I haven't had any of the phantom 300+ yard drives yet :-). I am starting to get closer to IRL numbers if I can keep it on the fairway which is exciting. Still not consistently close on the fairway 3 wood, which is odd, because I do get correct readings on my 3 hybrid. I'm attributing it to my swing and hitting surface.

If you are referring to my mention of 300+ yard drives caused by mis-reads, I have the ProTee sim. Each platform has its own nuances but I haven't heard of Skytrak giving anyone credit for too much distance!

On the subject of entering or choosing the club in TGC - that's the only way that shot recording will be of use. There's nothing to say you have to select the club that you actually use, but unless you do, the shot record will show a different club than you actually used.

        • #13
Shot recording will be of use to determine if someone cheats.

Other than that you can use it for club gapping or whatever if you select the right club.

Data on tonight's round, 4 misreads,

Shot # 4, Game showed a phantom putt when I didn't take one
Shot # 15, Incorrect ball speed on 5 Iron at 152.4 mph, should be more like 126 mph or so,
Shot # 18, Phantom putt again, was actually standing at computer when this one went off,
Shot # 36, Incorrect ball speed on PW, shows as 128.9 mph, should be more like 102 or so.

With regards to the phantom putts my connection seemed to be quite slow so maybe I had cast a shadow on the sensor without knowing it.

Overall system shows 65 shots, but I scored 71, so 65 shots less 4 rewinds, plus 8 approach gimmies (i.e. from off the green), 1 penalty stroke (yup gong show on 16! lol), plus 1 putt on hole # 3 that didn't show in recorded shots but should have, so if I'm correct that should all add to 71.
