  • VCam for Spin

I am confused as to whether or not this setting should be turned on or off.

I wrote to ProTee support, asking this question and got the following reply,
"VCam for Spin is an experimental method on spin calculations. The idea is that when you use this, you will not have to select a club all the time.
You can try it and switch it off if it does not work for you."

So, my question to this group is more of a poll...how many people have this setting on or off....and what are the pros and cons. I am going to test myself tonight
    and will report my findings.

    Thanks,

    Gene

It is much more accurate and the only clubs I have to worry about changing are driver and perhaps wood rather than iron. The only problem is you are opening yourself to misreads.

I use it on all of my sims. You just have to make sure the club is set to same basic group of clubs as the one you're using. It won't have to be set to the exact club you're using. Leave it set to Driver for driver or fairway woods, leave it set to any iron for an iron shot, set it to a wedge for wedge shots. Since all of the game software for ProTee hardware tries to automatically select a club for you you won't have to do this manually when playing a round. People can play full rounds now on my sims without worrying about changing the club before every shot. Makes it much less tedious to use the simulator and gives a much better flow to play.

When set to Use Vcam for Spin the Interface will calculate the spin based mostly on the launch angle of the ball instead of the assumed loft of the club. But it still calculates the spin differently if it's set to a wood, iron, or wedge. Also, it reads the ball speed differently based on what type of club it's set to. That's why it still needs to be set to a wood for a wood, iron for an iron, etc, but not the specific iron, wood, or wedge you're using. The side effect is the sim will add more spin for high launched shots (like a popped up drive) than it would actually have. You can also cheat your wedge spin by setting it to an iron for wedge shots. It will add about 3k-4k more spin when set to an iron while hitting a high launched wedge.

Only drawback to not selecting your club is if you plan to use the shot data from the TGC cloud that will soon be made available. There shot data includes the specific club selected for the shot. Case in point, you have 5 iron selected in the game but hit a 3 iron. Shot data will show that you used the 5 iron - not the 3 iron that you actually hit.

Guess we can worry about that when the shot data is released.

Wow, that's cool. It will be a little more work but kind of like Game Golf tracking device? I will have to check that out.
