  • Sky Trak renewal fee....

I bought my TGC with my sky trak last February.....we had to pay $99 fee for ST along with the $1000 for TGC....we were told it was going to still cost $99 each year with ST.........I just got an email that says i need to pay $200 to renew to be able to use simulation software??? This can't be right.....or is it??

  • Thanks for the info. Surely their PR dept has to do something. Ninja-ing an atrocious price hike is bad and not notifying your customer base is sleazy, silencing/deleting the customers' reactions from their public official channel (Facebook) is shameful. I'll gladly pay the premium for excellent customer service, this is currently not Skytrak, not even close.

    • I honestly don't trust them with my hard earned money. So I am out, fighting with my credit card company to get my money back.

      • So I was thinking, if we consider this product a 10 year product. And all the people who have purchased already under false promises/advertising, this will cost you and extra $1000 over 10 years, and I'm sure they will skyjack up the price again over that time. In a class action lawsuit every skytrak owner should be entitled to at least $1000 from skytrak from my pov. Could be way off base, but I'm sure these have been started for less.

From what I understand, it would be more than that. Some of the longer tenured users went from a one-time fee to an annual fee, now double that annual fee. This is an established pattern of bad behavior by Skytrak.

      • This is a pretty horrible move on their part. They did this shortly after their holiday pricing ended. I don't think that's a coincidence, and the timing of the sale compared to the price hike could be used to show their true intent of pulling a bait and switch.

My subscription ends at the end of April. I'll evaluate my options at that time. I had bought a JNPG sub rather than the PG membership which many had opted. That puts me in a slightly better position than those PG users, but not much, since I would have considered going with another unit had the actual costs been made clear up front.

This is one of those cases where one guy that makes far too much money makes a bad decision, and puts a lot of pressure on his subordinates to deal with that decision. I imagine it's a bad time to be working with the Skytrak.

They are aware of it and replied that something may come out soon along the lines of a grandfathered system. I gave them my expiration date which is only a couple weeks away and hoped they would have answer before then. I guess we shall see what comes from this, hopefully something good.
You know, for me, whatever SkyTrak does at this point is too little too late, unless they come out on their website and make a PUBLIC APOLOGY to all the SkyTrak users, but let's face it, they won't. Even if they lost a class action lawsuit, they would probably only agree to terms if they "do not have to admit any wrongdoing" like most of these cases go.

I have already given them a chance to make things right. I gave them the opportunity to honor what I agreed to when I made my purchase, or refund my money. They refused, and the supervisor I spoke with tried to scare me with the "there is nothing on the website that states the price will remain the same", as if that was some legal explanation. Well, their site does NOT say "Prices and package requirements are subject to change" either, so legally, I think we the consumer have some rights here.

SkyTrak's reputation is shot with me. Anything they do now is just a spin move to save their reputation. This shows me that upper management at SkyTrak really do not know how to conduct business. There were so many way they could have done this differently. #1 would have been to inform people in advance that the change was coming. This was NOT a late Friday night decision (which is when they changed their website) but a decision that has been in the making for a while. They could have offered to refund the difference of the purchase price to the rental price for those that did not want to upgrade to the P&I package. They could have grandfathered in all that purchased TGC under the GIP requirement to move up to the required P&I package but keep our pricing at $99/year.

Yet, SkyTrak keeps spouting about this "wonderful upgrade' we received, which is probably the lowest rated sim software out there (WGT). THAT'S what really burns my shorts, the fact that nothing at all has changed in the GIP and P&I packages except the fact that to access sim software, you now need the P&I package.

          • This is bad news for all SkyTrak_Seth users. After the last month or so product sentiment appeared to be at an all time high and i was beyond excited about the future of skytrak updates as well as updates to TGC (which I thought i would have access to with purchase of lifetime TGC licence and the $100 annual fee). It truly seemed like the space was growing and a lot more people were getting into the use of personal launch monitors--and that increased customer base revenue could help propel the advancement in this space. This sentiment now is horrendous and would truly question anyone willing to go along with the skytrak subscription plan which can apparently change at any time. To me it seems skytrak has no choice but to fix this.

It's real simple... All they need to do is to simply give us the original rates for those that had purchased prior to the rate change. #FreeMySkytrak

Wow, Pro Tee comments before SkyTrak does. Pro Tee is showing the support for their users, and SkyTrak? Not so much.

            • Here's my suspicion: the market for SkyTraks isn't as big as they first thought, volume wise. And SkyTrak sells for a much lower price than their next-closest competitor, portable launch monitors. At least $3000 less. Looks like they are under-pricing vs the competition, but the demand elasticity isn't as high as they thought (My guess because not so many people have the desire to use/install the system at any price). So SkyTrak has to adjust their pricing to stay in business. I'd much rather pay $200/yr to keep SkyTrak in business than pay nothing, have them fail, with no support for simulators, and just use the basic app. In a few years I may move on to whatever is the latest and greatest launch monitor. Compared to typical golf expenses $200 a year seems like nothing. That's the cost of one foursome with carts, probably less. Around here one country club wants something like $10k per year, with a couple hundred dollars a month of required restaurant spending.
If I use the Skytrak for 4 years I'll end up paying $2000 for the unit, over $1000 for my mat and net, less than $1000 for Skytrak software, $1000 for JNPG rental.
I'm not thrilled about the higher fees, but compared to how much other golf-related things cost, I don't see it as a big deal. If it weren't for Skytrak, I'd probably have never set up a simulator. Cheap enough to give it a try. Meanwhile GC2 still doesn't officially support 3rd party simulators, and just a month ago people were freaking out that Foresight was disabling their Bluetooth simulator connection via firmware updates. And nobody is sure that their new $18k GCQuad can even connect to a third party simulator.

Maybe so, I think the majority of the salt is due to the lack of transparency/communication. They snuck in a price hike without a single explanation/justification/notification. It's this practice that turn customers off and word of mouth spreads, doing damage to them. Customers want what they paid for, telling us that the competition cost 2-5x more doesn't explain away the distrust created.

Here's my theory : I think they have sold a few units, a lot of pro's use these throughout the world, nit just sim guys. I think wgt has fell flat on its face, somehow lost money in that investment , also I think they're pissed that guys on here are selling protection jackets , one guy alone has sold well over 200, skytrak have just invested in their new version, but they're too late to the party.

I really hope that they do come to a resolution otherwise my SkyTrak will collect dust until it can be sold.

                • The unfortunate thing is Pro Tee United and Rapsodo are good companies caught up with a bad business decision by skytrak. Protee's customer service is top notch and it is a company I wish to have great success.

I really hope things get turned around and skytrak does the right thing. However their track record suggests otherwise.

                  • Just received this message from skytrak...

We want to sincerely apologize for the confusion through the weekend regarding subscription information and levels for simulation use provided by third parties. As some of you have correctly pointed out, the Game Improvement Package (“GIP”) priced at $99.95 per year has served as the gateway subscription to 3rd party simulation software since early 2015.

Information released by our team over the weekend conveyed that the simulation gateway level had been changed to the Play and Improve Package (“PIP”) at $199.95 per year. This change was made to put us in compliance with our licensing agreements with the 3rd party simulation partners. This effort to correct a recently discovered compliance problem that has existed since early in 2015 was implemented poorly and without regard to what had been communicated to you at the time of your subscription purchase.

Moreover, we failed to mention that we upgraded, at the time of the change, all impacted customers to the PIP package for FREE for the remainder of their current subscription. For most of you, this free upgrade covered 9-11 months. However, for a few dozen it covered only a month or two leading to a lot of unnecessary concern and questions when renewal notices went out via email. We value you as a customer, and we want to make this right.

In full recognition of our mistake, we have taken the following action for those accounts that purchased third-party simulation packages and have been provided access under the GIP package sold at $99.95 per year.
                    1. At the time of this change, accounts impacted by this change were upgraded to the PIP package at no charge for the remainder of the current subscription, and
                    2. for as long as the SkyTrak device stays under your ownership, those same accounts will receive an Exclusive Upgrade Coupon at renewal time to allow the purchase of the PIP package at the same price as the GIP package.
Our team made a mistake in how it handled a contract compliance problem, and we want to apologize for this error as well as any inconvenience this has caused. We hope you recognize our effort to make it right by grandfathering your ability to have the access you expected, and more, via the free upgrades.

Since your account had already been upgraded at the time of the change, you should not have seen any interruption in access. However, if you do have a problem, please contact our customer service department, who is standing by to correct any mistakes.

Again, our apologies for any inconvenience and thank you for entrusting us as a resource for your golf practice, competition and entertainment.

                    Sincerely,

                    SkyTrak Support Team

I just would like to thank Pro Tee for getting involved in this. I have a feeling that your input carried way more weight than ours, the end user. You guys make a great product in TGC and have a great support team. Thank you for looking out for us SkyTrak users.

                    • I am glad to see that they are making good on this.

                      • Why does it feel like pro tee twisted skygolfs arm to make things right . Also, seems like they had a deal with WGT to force everyone to play their crappy sim. Sucks for all the new SkyTrak sim users who have to now $199 /year
