Any official word on when to expect TGC 2019 to be playable with Skytrak? Sounds like ProTee put the ball in Skytrak's court.

TGC 2019 on Skytrak

Don’t recall the ‘VERY’ so boldly emphasized in previous communications. Previous posts always referred that ‘not to worry’ everyone will be ‘taken care of’. I advise large multi billion companies on customer care and the post above is a classic example of what not to do when you deal with customer expectations. Hopefully the hole doesn’t get deeper and those customers that supported TGC and Skytrak (like myself) who bought the first day they released the initial product aren’t penalized. I’ve referred 6 others who have also bought both platforms. Will be interesting to see how they make out as it’s an inflection point to possibly try an alternative.

I agree with Moz. I don’t play tournaments (mainly because i suck at golf to be honest) and took a break from the simulator for a good spell after hurting my back in the winter of 2016 trying to find more lag. I am not sure how that makes me an “unloyal” Protee customer. I don’t consider $522 US to be a “small fee” either, not when i am based in Canada and pay an extra 35% on the exchange. This will be a very good test of Protee’s integrity for sure.

Completely agree with Moz and Scyukon.
Individuals purchased the software with differing intents. Some want to engage in tournament activity, while others simply want to enjoy the game and improve their skills.I, for one, have three young daughters and have very little interest in participating in tournaments. I purchased TGC to enjoy golf with my wife and daughters. I have since expanded the way I use SkyTrak and TGC to include a winter golf league where I host 16 players for 18 weeks. I have a difficult time trying to wrap my head around how one persons use of the software can be deemed loyal while another is not. It is hard not to feel slighted by the decision of ProTee United to not offer it someone because they do not use the software how another person does. Additionally, it is frustrating that the upgrade was being offered for $297 for a small period of time and now that discount seems to be gone. I inquired of Protee United support at that point and they suggested I wait until I know whether or not I will receive the "free upgrade". So, I waited and now appear to have missed that opportunity as well.

Got everything installed today, and started playing TGC 2019. Hopefully this will help some folks, if not, please feel free to ignore. Here are the steps I followed to get everything sorted:
1) install protee golf interface from protee email (OPTIONAL step for SkyTrak users)
2) install tgc software from link in protee setup
3) launch software (old tgc for skytrak interface)
4) save machine id and click deactivate
5) relaunch skytrak for tgc to get new machine id (I had an error here that my license was expired/missing and the app would not launch, my fix was to restart my computer and make sure TGC 2019 was not running)
6) launch tgc for skytrak interface and go to license screen to get machine id
7) launch protee tgc registration page
8) enter skytrak machine id from step 6, protee activation code from email and list simulator as skytrak
9) wait impatiently for ProTee email and drink a few beers and watch your NCAA bracket get busted as every team loses in elite eight
10) get ProTee email with license and turn off NCAA tournament in disgust.
11) Launch TGC for skytrak interface and enter license id in settings tab
12) Click connect for TGC to skytrak
13) Click launch to launch TGC 2019
One difference I noticed is the SkyTrak lights would not come on (2/3 green with top red) until I got to a course, then the top light would come on and I could start playing.
And sheesh, this thing looks gooooooooood..........Last edited by Bryndom; 04-01-2019, 10:45 PM.

I usually lurk more than post, but SkyTrak's sad excuse for customer service needs to be made public so that they can be properly shamed into improving it. Had this "chat" with their "live rep" earlier (emphasis mine):- Rep: Hello. How may I help you?
- Me: Hi, I wanted to check to see if you guys had an anticipated timeline for sending out TGC2019 activation e-mails?
- Rep: At the moment we do not have any update or info regarding the TGC2019, We have not received an update from Pro Tee and were told that they are providing pre-orders on their end. So, it is not available with the SkyTrak right now. We are working on the compatibility of TGC 2019 and not to worry, once TGC2019 is launched, it will be published on skygolf website regarding it and will be notified to you in your email address as well
- Me: There are people playing the new version with SkyTrak. They got their free upgrades from either Pro Tee or elsewhere. They are saying that we're going to get e-mails from you directly with codes.
- Rep: No, TGC2019 has not been launched for skytrak yet. We have not received an update from Pro Tee and were told that they are providing pre-orders on their end.
- Me: I'd really appreciate if you didn't just keep copying and pasting canned responses.
- Rep: In order to make the TGC2019 work with skytrak it needs to be purchased or upgraded from skygolf website. So, no worries, you can wait till TGC2019 gets launched and will be notified via email
- Me: There are people playing it with SkyTrak. How can you say it's not launched?
- Rep: No, as said we have not received any update or info regarding the TGC2019 for skytrak. You with all the TGC customers will be notified via email, so not to worry about it. Is there anything else I can help you with today?
- Me: So you're telling me that nobody with a SkyTrak is playing TGC2019 right now
- Rep: Yes
- Me: I'm telling you you're wrong. Is there a supervisor I can speak with?
- Rep: I have provided you the correct details that we have now. Yes please call us in and we will be very happy to help you with the same details. You can reach our phone support at: 1-866-759-4653 between 8am - 5pm Central Mon-Fri. Please let me know did you made a note of the Contact Number correctly ?
I'd be furious if I worked for ProTee right now. The ProTee United and ProTee Max accounts have been exceptionally communicative and helpful publicly, and there have been even more posts from users thanking them for their direct one-on-one help. Their management either needs to get on the same page as SkyTrak's, or if they already have, they need to lean on SkyTrak to get it together. SkyTrak is fortunate that they have few competitors in the market and no competitors in the price range because I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd be considering jumping ship. Absolutely pathetic. I hope they get it together, and soon. As much joy as I get playing golf in my garage in the winter, I'd feel like a real jerk if I recommended the product to a friend and they ended up in this disaster of a software upgrade.
For reference, purchased SkyTrak and TGC in November 2018 directly from SkyTrak.
Bonus chat tidbit:- Me: Are you even a person? These canned responses are horribly frustrating. You're certainly not improving the situation.
- Rep: Yes, I am. I am living human providing info about your inquiry

Guys, please let it rest. SkyTrak is doing their utmost best to release it. We are in contact with them on a daily basis. Checking the emails you will receive, sending links, updating documentation, providing information, etc. It’s not far out. They need to make sure everything is 100%. No room for mistakes. We are not talking about 10 users who will need upgrades and support. It’s a big operation. Sure none of us will receive the 2019 Beauty Award for best roll-out, but it’s coming and that’s what its all about.
-
considering the fact that the only skytrak users that have access to tgc 2019 got it directly from protee and not skytrak, it would make sense if the customer service reps weren't aware of it. I also don't know why you would expect to get any different answer than everyone else has said they have received from support. i highly doubt a support rep is with holding secret info from you... they can only tell you what they know
-
We received the same canned responses. If the communications where open and honest I would feel better about dealing with them but at this point you can’t really trust anything they are saying.
Very disappointing
I understand this is a large undertaking but being open and honest builds integrityLast edited by Clipless; 04-01-2019, 11:26 PM.

Where do we order the upgrade for the 50% off? I purchased before 2018 and never received a response about my free upgrade request (applied the day alpha applications went live). I'd at least like to purchase for the discount, but I'm confused if I need to wait for Skytrak to release or I buy through the protee website and wait for the license key from skytrak?Originally posted by ProTee United View PostMoz, we really appreciate your support but we have to draw a line somewhere otherwise we will never become a large multi billion dollar company. We have been very generous compared to other sim companies in the industry. We even offer a 50% off upgrade deal to our loyal customers to access this completely renewed platform with upgraded graphics. On top of our free and discounted deals, we also rewarded our VERY active tour players to show our appreciation. You played 12 out of 120 events back in 2018. The VERY is to emphasize that just a couple of rounds won't get you qualified. We would love to make everyone happy, but unfortunately financially it's not possible.

Once skytrak gets the information on their website there should be an option for upgrade pricing that will last until July that will be half off of the full price. The assumption is it will be around $400 which is the same upgrade price currently on protee's website for simulators other than Skytrak. Hopefully that helps.

Protee, please check out this blast from the past:https://golfsimulatorforum.com/forum...gc-for-skytrak
In it, you will see just how many of us “right out of the gate” early adopters who went all in on Protee as soon as it was available for Skytrak. To me, this shows forum users just as “loyal” to Protee as any other criteria you may wish to hang your hat on. I am not sure how many pre January 1, 2018 user’s you would have to provide the free upgrade to, but i am thinking the good publicity should be worth it. Moz mentioned many friends who have gone the Protee route based on his experience. I always brag to my friends about the vast selection of courses i have to choose from with Protee.
With respect to making money going forward, i would strongly suggest that you be very clear that new future versions will not be free. To be honest, part of my rationale in spending the 1000 upfront was the belief that i was done for life. If i had realized that my version would be outdated in a couple of years, i likely would have gone the lease version, or (being brutally honest here) stuck with the limited courses offered in the Skytrak demo and waited for the other software to come to market.
My bad, but as Moz said, i feel duped too. Please do the right thing.Last edited by Scyukon; 04-03-2019, 04:19 AM.

Like I've said before, I understand that they can't give it free to everyone. It's not a sustainable business model and I'm not asking them to do so even for myself. But, knowing what I know now, I would not have purchased TGC 1.5 years ago and I would have waited. Spending $900 on software for 1.5 years of it being the front line product seems like a very expensive lease. I recently discovered the tour and have enjoyed playing on it greatly but I imagine that the TGC tour will be only a shell of its former self as people move on to TGC 2019. I imagine there will be no more updates or development for TGC and course designers will no longer make courses for it, it basically is now an end of life product.
The prospect of paying $400 for another ~3 years and then having to pay again for the next new software (TGC 2022?) is giving me pause about upgrading. It ends up turning into a lease model anyway.
For Protee, I agree with Scykon, you should be very clear as to how future new products will be handled so people can go in with their eyes open when spending a large amount of money on a "lifetime" license. Stating that loyal customers will be taken care of sets up a bad situation for you. I'm sure each of your customers feel that they are loyal and then end up being disappointed when you don't consider them loyal enough.
Just a few thoughts.

I will 100% pay $400 every three years. That's like 4 rounds of real golf. I have played close to 100 rounds on TGC tour. It is still an insane deal, given that the tour exists and remains free. Hurry up Skytrak and get TGC 2019 going already.

ProTee United, there you have it....if the upgrade path was clear there wouldn’t be this many customers feeling neglected because we are not what you call “ loyal customers”
-
We value and appreciate our customers and every TGC customer who enjoys TGC is a "loyal" customers. We are rewarding our active tour players and active forum contributors as an extra on top of the 2018 purchases. It's already 1000x more any other simulator hardware/software manufacturer would do. We are also aware we can not make everyone happy. Unfortunately we can not give everything away as this has been a huge investment and we have mouths to feed as well...

More info about the upgrade path: https://csc.protee-united.com/hc/en-...and-Conditions
Just to be clear, TGC will not go away. The tours will remain active and its a great product. You do not have to upgrade. Its not a mandatory upgrade.

I think you and I are very similar. Over the years, we have contributed basically nothing to the tour/forum. We don't deserve anything from Protee or anyone else in the SIM community. For comparison, look up mthunt or keither5150. Those guys deserve some solid cash in addition to free upgrades for life, haha.
-
@SZ the promise for "lifetime upgrades" is for the product, not YOUR lifetime. I thought the same thing until I dug a little deeper and then was sadly disappointed when I realized I was wrong. TGC 2019 is not an upgrade to TGC, but an entirely new product. As ProTee said, TGC will still exist and the tour will still be there. In fact, if you want to play the tur you have to play TGC1 as it will be fall before the tour comes to TGC 2019.
As far as the upgrade path being clear, it was. They stated loyal tour players and forum contributors would be offered a free upgrade.
Now look at if from ProTee's side as a business. ProTee wants the tour and forum to flourish. If ProTee had come out and said "you need to play XX amount of tour events and have XX amount of posts in the forum" there would have been a flurry of people playing and posting just to get the free upgrade, and then more than likely would stop participating. I can see where they wanted to reward those that were doing it naturally, and not just to receive a free upgrade.

I have moved on from my disappointment, but I think it is impossible for someone who received the "free upgrade" to tell someone who didn't how they should be feeling about the situation. I promise, the people who are frustrated are genuinely disappointed/hurt and are not simply trying to stir the pot.
Regardless, this will be my final post on the topic and I apologize for the length.
Lgnir Yes, I am a SkyTrak user. I am extremely happy with my setup and will continue to use TGC as it best fits into my life. I will even purchase the TGC 2019 upgrade when it is available. My use consists of hosting an indoor winter golf league for 16 players over 18 weeks during the winter months. This leaves very little time for me to play the online tours since I already have people at my house three nights per week. Gotta spend some time with the wife and kids
calebm1001 Regarding your comment about people saying “I would have played on tour more. I would have commented more” comment. I understand you were not referencing me as I have never said that and do not plan on posting comments or playing on tour any more than I have historically. My life simply doesn't allow for it. That being said, if you are a user who did not receive the free upgrade, it is impossible to feel good about your status as a "valued" ProTee customer (however you want to define that). The individuals who are disappointed aren't debating that they participated on the forum and on tour at the same level as the "super contributors", they are simply arguing that the criteria to qualify was very loosely defined. The comments ProTee made related to the TGC 2019 "free upgrade" were on a public forum and it is impossible to argue that they didn't lead everyone down the path where there was a real chance that you would be considered for the upgrade. When the formal "free upgrade" request was finally released, what we read was an ambiguous statement regarding the criteria for a user to be considered for the "free upgrade". We were told to enter our information and we will make our judgement based on whether or not we believe you use the software how we think you should. At this point, many of us are feeling like there was never a chance for us to receive the "free upgrade" and we would have much preferred to know upfront. Over the past year, there was an undeniable sense that ProTee would do the right thing for its customers. This turned out to be true for some, but not all. I'm not saying ProTee owed anyone anything and I am not arguing that they didn't do 1000x more than other software company's would have done as ProTee has commented before. I am only stating we feel slighted and the hurt is real. If you're giving ProTee the benefit of the doubt, at best the consistent message they provided was misleading and at worst they knew who wouldn't qualify and chose to withhold that information. My opinion is that the vague criteria was intentional as it gave ProTee the leeway they wanted when making their case-by-case decisions. That is fine, but transparency is a big deal nowadays, and had the message been open and honest from the beginning there wouldn't be so many frustrated people now. We would have known where we stood and we would have adjusted our expectations. Instead we were led to believe that there was hope and in the end the rug was pulled out from under us. Call us naive if you want, but that is how we feel and it was only made worse for me when I was directed by ProTee to hold off on the purchase of the upgrade at the discounted price of $297 in January as I might be offered the "free upgrade".
At the end of the day, ProTee chose to offer the "free upgrade" possibility on a public forum and failed to remove doubt on who would and who wouldn't be considered for the "free upgrade". If you weren't selected, the only feeling that you are left with is that ProTee does not value you as much as they value another user who did receive the "free upgrade". They essentially placed stipulations on how they expect you to use the software (you must play on tour to be valued) and the forum (we expect you to post regularly on the forum to be valued). I feel that this is flat wrong. I paid the same amount for the software as anybody else and when I purchased it I knew what my intent for it was, but never in my wildest dreams did I think that my value and loyalty would be judged based on how I chose to use the software. I will continue to host a winter golf league and use the TGC software as it best suits me, but I do not appreciate coming to the realization that ProTee considers my use of the software as substandard to the "tour players" and the forum "super users".Last edited by janda21; 04-04-2019, 04:40 PM.

calebm1001, your first point — you won’t find a post that says that from me.
Second point— no, I didn’t know I wasn’t an active member. What I admitted was that I’ve only played in a few events and only made a few posts. That’s why I was harping on what does it mean to be an “active member”. Nobody knew but @protee and they wouldn’t clarify it when asked of them.
Third point — I agree, the negativity is not good for the board, but they set the expectation, not me. But I have faith it will turn around because this is still the best place for anything Sim related.
Fourth point — I hope your right.

There's the rub...Originally posted by Lgnir View PostAs far as the upgrade path being clear, it was. They stated loyal tour players and forum contributors would be offered a free upgrade.
Some of us still don't know where we stand.
I've finished 20+ tour events since getting up and running in November 2017 and had a few top ten finishes in the tour last summer. I'm not sure if I still have a chance for a free upgrade once the SkyTrak gates open up or I should be raiding my change jar for upgrade money.

I think one key point people need to remember is that the information that ProTee, and Skytrak for that fact, share on this forum is out of courtesy and for a little feedback. In my eyes, anything that is said here is not really official. It is nice that ProTee has involved the community so much in the role out and creation of the new software, although I am sure sometimes they wish the had closed their doors a bit more to us.
Either way, I can wait for the day I can convince the wife to let me spend even more money on my sim setup to purchase TGC 2019. Finally getting back to playing some tour rounds in TGC and love the feeling of having pressure on every shot, just like in real life.

ProTee United This whole thing just brought back bad memories as child when I was promised a new bike for Christmas, when I didn’t get it and asked my dad why, he said you didn’t ride your old one enough......lol. I still love youLast edited by SZ; 04-03-2019, 08:35 PM.
