  • TGC 2019 on Skytrak

Any official word on when to expect TGC 2019 to be playable with Skytrak? Sounds like ProTee put the ball in Skytrak's court.

Soon SkyTrak is working hard on the backend systems and communication. They will need a little bit of time to get this all organized, so the process runs smoothly.

Just curious, are we talking hours? Days? Weeks?

Edit: I assume you don’t know since you’re not Skytrak

It’s confusing to me how the alpha worked fine and now there’s work to be done post release with no timeline info. I’m under the impression some of the Alpha folks were Skytrak users.

I’ve also become a little concerned free upgrade versus paid upgrade may be in Sky Golf’s hands which I didn’t consider at all when I purchased TGC in 2018 and Protee was indicating free upgrade for purchases. I never would have bought early if there was a chance I wouldn’t get free upgrade months later. I may be over reading some of the other forum comments but for the first time in this process I’m nervous I may get charged to upgrade if Sky Golf decides they want to charge for it.

Is there a timeline of when SkyTrak will release TGC 2019?

I got on upgrade code from protee this morning, and was able to get it installed and running with my skytrak. I bought prior to 1/1/18 though, which is why it didn't come from Skytrak. It definitely works with the skytrak though. It doesn't seem like any special software is required. Thanks ProTee United!

I likewise bought mine prior to 1/1/18, but no mails as yet for me from Protee or SkyTrak

Details please!? Did you just use the old TGC Skytrak interface to connect then and then run the new TGC 2019 console to start the same?

SkyTrak users use the old interface to license, connect and to play the game.

Old interface I guess you mean choosing settings. And from there do deactivate the existing license?

i just got the email also for a download link... downloaded it all, and nothing happened. no next steps to install etc. does it all do it automatically? does it erase the old TGC off? in saying that... i am genuinely useless with computers!

TGC 2019 installs in a separate directory. It does not erase the original TGC. You launch the game like you did with the orig TGC by starting the Skytrak TGC interface BUT you have to have a new license key. You get this key by sending in the activation code that you got in your email and the machine ID from the Skytrak TGC interface. Start the interface and select settings. You MUST deactivate the current license, quit the interface, then restart it to get the new machine ID. Send this in using the link on the email you received and they will send the new license key to you. You pop the new key in the interface and you are good to go.

Here is what I have received from SkyTrak chat this morning. I would have thought with the length it took to bring TGC2019 to market that they would have been better prepared for the launch of the product.

We are working on the compatibility of TGC 2019 and our website/social media will be updated when that is available. We are not sure what costs are involved at this time.
So not to worry, once TGC2019 is launched for skytrak, it will be published on skygolf website regarding and will be notified to you in your email address as well.
At the moment we do not have any exact time frame for TGC 2019 launch.

I wonder if this is more of a contractual issue rather than a hardware/integration issue.

Not at all. Think of them like iTunes, but Skytrak has to build the back end support to make all the pipes work.

I would have just bought the pre-order from Protee if I would have known it was going to be weeks to months after the release to get my hands on TGC 2019 from skytrak ( even though qualify for the free upgrade)

                    This situation seems borderline insane.

                    1. People who bought TGC earlier and weren’t “promised” a free upgrade at time of sale are getting access before those that bought in 2018 when a free upgrade was being promised (granted promised on Protee Website not Sky Golfs but if this is going to be the semantics it needs to be way more clear).
                    2. The reasoning for delay makes zero sense as Skytrak is saying setup and compatability etc but people can play the game on Skytrak seemingly just fine who had Alpha or bought before 2018. I also don’t understand why Protee can go direct to pre 2018 purchases but has to go through Sky Golf for 2018 purchases.
                    3. Skytrak commenting they aren’t sure on cost really irks me given people who bought before 2018 haven’t had to pay. Protee has reconfirmed no cost but they also don’t control Sky Golf.
                    4. It has been known for months a release was coming and Alpha ended weeks ago. Given the software appears to work with Skytrak I can’t see how this upgrade issue couldn’t have been dealt with before now.

I only got my Skytrak in 2018 and I held off getting TGC for about 6 months as I was going to wait for TGC 2019. Only when it was advertised that my new purchase would get upgraded for free to 2019 did I decide I may as well get it now. I have been a big supporter of Skytrak but if this is weeks of clearly needless waiting or an upgrade fee somehow gets inserted how I speak to people about this product will change dramatically.

I really hope I’m overreacting and I get an email in a couple days for my free upgrade but the way this has rolled out for Skytrak users in 2018 doesn’t give me much confidence.

Thanks Protee. I appreciate your attentiveness to this (and I suspect you are not the problem here) but I’m still worried about how long Sky Golf May take to actually roll this out and I’m very unclear why they need to be involved for some existing owners and not others. Obviously there is some reason 2018 purchases are being treated differently but I’m not seeing a logical reason why we couldn’t have simply been send a link from Protee like the people that purchased before 2018. If every Skytrak user was in the same situation and it was actually hardware/software related it would make more sense but the delivery seems illogical if I’m simply waiting for a Skytrak email they haven’t written when Protee could just send me a link (in either case I think Protee still gets involved giving me a new license key).

Gresh12, I understand your frustration, but that is how business works. ProTee could have came out and said "Sorry folks, since TGC 2019 is an entirely new product, everyone needs to buy it again." (just like software new versions you buy for your computer)

ProTee made a decision that those that purchased TGC1 in Jan 2018 and later, would automatically receive a free version of TGC2019. Those "licenses" were sold to third party vendors like Sky Golf/SkyTrak, and we the consumer purchased them through SkyGolf, and NOT ProTee itself. So the new versions would be distributed through SkyGolf. What a lot of people are not considering is at this time, SktTrak is finishing the touches on the release of it's updated software. I can see as a business where SkyTrak would have their priority set on their software first, and the update to a software package they happen to sell for another vendor second.

The reason for ProTee to go work directly to those that purchased pre Jan 2018, is that those users were not eligible for a free new version. ProTee made the decision that they would reward those that were loyal participants in the ProTee tours, and contributed in the forums, would be considered to receive a free copy of the new version. ProTee made the decisions on a case by case basis, and utilizing their criteria that they did not make public for obvious reasons.

It just comes down to how businesses are run. ProTee releases the updated software to those that use the ProTee platform. They also released the new version to those that they rewarded for being loyal users. For those that will receive the new version based on their purchase date, that will be handled by the vendor you purchased the software through. For those that do not fall into these categories (pre Jan 2018 purchasers that did not qualify for the free version), they will have to wait and see if SkyTrak (and I believe they will) offers a discounted price to those that purchased pre Jan 2018.

I know it may not make sense to you, but honestly, that how business works.

I’m going to go easy on the debate as much of the last critique is on comments I made before clarity was available. At the time it wasn’t clear the free upgrade that was promised to me was coming through (which has now been confirmed it will) and if it was going to happen when (this is still outstanding with no real communication except rumours it “may” be next week).

However, telling me I don’t understand how businness works seems a touch over the top. As someone who runs a business, communication with your customers and setting expectations is pretty fundamental and I still maintain that was done poorly in this instance. I’ve put my thoughts on the communication in other places so not going to write that out again.
