  • The launch monitor is measuring you hitting the 7 and 8 iron about the same distance. That is why I asked about the actual physical/static loft of each iron might be the same. That might explain why you are getting nearly the same launch angles and ball speeds being registered for each club and then analyzed by the Skytrak.

Oh, okay. I miscommunicated, then. My 7 and 8 are different ball speeds, launch angles, spin, etc. They are not registering the same distance on the same software. What i was trying to say is that the 7 iron carry distance is the same on skytrak and flightscope given the same ball data, but the 8 iron is vert different between skytrak and flightscope with the same ball data.

      • Okay, I understand you now. Sorry about my confusion.

        Best regards,

        • I have used the updated version (set the ground condition to soft) and believe that the distances are much closer to what I would experience on the course. Wedges are a lot more inline with what I would expect as well as 8,9 and PW. Mid/long irons seem to be about the same. I have not thrown any numbers into the flightscope website, just going by the seat of my pants. I hope to get together with my coach and compare to his flightscope unit, but I am not having much luck rounding him up right now. I will post again after a few more sessions about whether my initial impression holds true.

Is the ball supposed to be right on top of the laser dot or is there an acceptable diameter the ball can be placed around the dot. When placing the ball on a tee should the dot be on the ball or at the base of the tee. Lastly, I know the skytrak needs to be level however does the base of it need to be the same height as the mat. Example if you have the ultra monster turf or CCE mat which are almost 2" thick can the skytrak be on the ground or should you elevate it approximately 2" so the base is even with the top of the hitting mat. Thanks.
I have found that you can place it within a reasonable distance of the dot, lets say a 1" radius, and still get good results. I haven't tried outside of that approximate radius.

Also, you are supposed to put the tee into the red dot.

I also set my conditions to "Soft" instead of "Normal", and the distances seem to be better. The "Normal" settings gives way too much roll. I didn't even try hard. Hate to see what kind of roll you get out of that!

Everyone test on "Soft" conditions and see if its better. Post your results.

              • I put mine to soft as soon as I saw the rollout on my PW. Much better at this setting.

Here's a couple of quickies from my 1.8 version. 7i showing the weird distance gains over FS Optimizer and the rollout question. (Pics are soft/norm/hard order)

                  • I compiled some data by wilson and myself. The distance problem for mid-irons seems persistent. Click image for larger version

That pretty much sums up what I have seen. I spent over an hour tonight hitting shots from my 60deg wedge all the way up through my 4-iron. I was going to compile a similar table for you guys, but then when I went to look at "session history" the #$%@%!! app crashed and the data wasn't there when I went back in. Arrrgh! I guess I'll have to write it down next time.

                        • What iron were you guys hitting specifically. What lofted club were those shots from? I'm curious if you have abnormally high or low spin rates for the launch angles given.

Hold your power button and the home button together at the same time and the iPad takes a screenshot in your camera app for you.

                              That was my 7i - 31* @ 37.25" .
Those numbers are generally inline with what the GC2 numbers I've had before show. I'm going to get a list today of FSO vs ST carry numbers from Hybrid thru to LW. But anecdotally i feel the 4 / 5 / PW / GW / SW / LW numbers are good but the 6 / 7 / 8 / 9 for me are out by a 8+ yard margin.
