  • SkyTrak and The Golf Club (TGC) Simulation Software

Hi Seth. I'm new to this forum but have been reading as much as I can about SkyTrak on this and other forums. It seems that many experienced sim users think that The Golf Club game is the best simulator software out there right now. In fact, if I'm understanding and remembering things correctly, Bubba22 and Zmax were instrumental (please correct me if I'm wrong) in getting ProTee to integrate their sim hardware (and gc2) with The Golf Club software. So my question to you/SkyTrak is simply this: Has there been any thought to integrating SkyTrak with The Golf Club? And if so, what are the odds that this might happen? And if so, when?

  • Here are 3 versions of Hitchens Vally Hotel. All 1920x1080. The first one is with HIGH detail. The second one with MEDIUM detail and the last one with LOW detail. The biggest difference is the quality of shadows and water. Look at the details near the bridge and the quality of the tree shadows in the bunker.

And still on the big screen with low details it looks great. Nothing to be ashamed off

Is the high and med detail mixed up? Why would the high detail not show the reflection of the bridge?

You would think so, but its not. The HIGH detail image reflection looks darker because it also reflects the shadows (very advanced). Will show below.

  • I bit the bullet and put together a new PC for TGC. High end i5 processor, msi 970 gpu, 8gb memory, ssd. I'd be happy to post the details if anyone wants them. Installed TGC through steam and played with the settings for a while this morning. Ended up with similar settings as above details 1 trees 1300 distance around 750. 60fps consistently. I'm using a projector with net return on side wall. Looks amazing. Just playing with an air mouse. Please please please any beta testing available? I may never leave the house again once this is released.

You should be able to run settings on high, detail 5, trees at about 1/4 to 1/3 of max. As long as you have 30-40 FPS, it will play smooth. This way, it will look better.

          • Has anyone tried TGC on a Mac using Bootcamp? If so how were the results?

              I have, it works OK.

I have a 2015 Macbook Pro with the M370X dedicated GPU. I run TGC via Windows 10 bootcamp. It runs OK at 1680x1050, Medium Detail, with trees dialed down a bit (200 trees, 300 yards). Its not 60 fps, but its probably about 30 (have not installed fraps yet to see the actual frame rate). I think it will be playable at these settings.

It does cause the macbook to run hot, fans kick on 100%.

                • So what is holding up TGC on SkyTrak? Seriously I'm holding back from swapping my SkyTrak for used GC2 for $3k. But if yet-to-be-released Ernest Sports ES16 gets TGC first, I think I (and many others) will flip!

                  • I'm about to build my gaming PC for TGC. Should I spend the extra $250 and get the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980TI 6G GDDR5 graphics card or go with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 4GB GDDR5?

Both are great cards! Will the 970 allow me to play on High Detail or do you think bumping up to the 980TI 6GB will make a big difference?

The CPU and Motherboard will be high end. Just asking about the graphics cards.

I run that 970 in high detail no problem.

                  • I play on high detail with my 4gb 970 just fine.

I'm only at 1080p tho. Don't know what you want to project.

                    • What resolution will you be playing at? Are you using a TV or projecting onto an impact screen? Are you bothered about the game looking good, or do you want it to look great?

I have a GTX 980 Ti Lightning which is factory overclocked by ~20% and am playing on a TV which is UHD (3840 x 2160) and I do like my games to look great. I can play this game at 1080p and have it looking great but even with my beefy system I would rather not see the frames dip as low as they sometimes do on courses with loads of trees and foliage. Personally I'm looking forward to next springs new generation of graphics cards from Nvidia and AMD as they are expected to give incredible jumps in performance.

As far as frames per second go, I would say you want to aim for 60 fps as being ideal with dips to 45 being unnoticeable. 45 fps average with dips to 30 fps is the minimum for smooth gameplay. 30 fps average with dips to ~20 fps will pass for a lot of people who are not fussy, or perhaps don't even notice, the occasion stutter or slowdown. To test this, using FRAPS look for the drop in frames per second during the follow camera as the ball starts to descend from its peak height.

But as the recent discussion shows, settings can be tweaked to make the best from any decent PC system where compromise is the order of the day. I am disappointed that I can only get 30 fps average, with dips to ~20 fps on links style courses (no trees/minimal foliage) when using UHD resolution of 3840 x 2160 as this, for me, is unplayable. There is no answer at present to play this game at UHD or 4K as the game doesn't support dual graphics cards and the most powerful graphics cards in the world are not powerful enough for this task. I never thought, in my wildest dreams, that I'd ever be able to say that about a golf game, but you live and learn!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
