  • Perfect Golf (beta) for Skytrak

Perfect Golf might look like a great game but has way too many bugs, even for an early access game still under development. It has a very long way to go before it can be mentioned in the same sentence as TGC, E6, ProTee and Red Chain. There is no AI, no stats, no tournament play and online play servers crash frequently. It currently has 10 courses and no stable (commercially) released version.

Price is unknown, but keep in mind you will be buying a beta product.

This is what I am leaning towards too. I tried a reproduction of my local muni in TGC but the creator is not very good. Integration with Google Maps or some kind of ground topology system to use as a base would make it more useful. If PG has full access to upload GIIS or local mapping formats to start with then I would be incredibly interested.

Wilson, I think PG does have this, or at least I remember seeing a way that you could load in topographic maps (I think it was GIIS maps), and these would be used to create the topography. Look it up in Google, there are some references to it - but now I'm not sure it's possible: https://www.google.com/search?q=perf...utf-8&oe=utf-8

Take this for what it's worth, but here a comment on the courses in waiting. Apparently it's a byproduct of their broadcasting work:

--PP has completed versions of all the tour courses ready to go, there just needs to be some clearance to do so. --

I will also be playing PG, have been a big supporter of the project at perfect parallel since day 1, Mike and Andrew (PG owners) are extremely knowledgeable and well respected in the PC gaming community from the days of Links, many people are also unaware that the TV flyover designs you see on sky were made by perfect parallel (pebble , Augusta), they have deals with sky and also Jack niklaus course design. I find TGC a good game but PG just takes it that step further in realism. All my own views of course I know TGC has stunning visuals and is amazing in its own right.

The course design process at PG seems to require some serious expertise, really in depth stuff. Something which personally I have never felt the urge to try and many casual designers from tgc may be intimidated by this as it will take some serious learning I would think. But the designers over there currently are extremely talented and some great courses have already landed on the Early access game.

Hmmm, not sure that you are being fair to the 'casual designers' from TGC. The stuff that the good ones have come up with is pretty amazing. Thanks to them there are many very good TGC courses. The work required on a course usually is more than 200 hrs from what I understand.

The 'realism' is in the eye of the beholder. And 'realism' won't help you play better.

Don't mean to offend anybody here I'm sure TGC designers are very talented and you missed the point entirely I am talking about course design engines and there's is no comparison in the detail that can be achieved in course forge and unity for PP than can be achieved in the TGC course creator - that Is a fact.

And for the record when I say casual designers in TGC I mean exactly that - not the serious designers who design the best courses - I meant guys who want to play around and create their home course and have a play around with the software - its very pick up and play TGC course designer - whereas PP course design is not.

aja I agree 100% that realism will not help you play better golf. It's actually the other way around. a realistic reproduction of a well known hole/course we have seen so many times on TV is intimidating. Look below and tell me if you can guess what course/hole this is. I would definitely play this better in the TGC version.
For those of you that know TGC better than me. Feel free to post an alternative image of that hole that is more realistic/intimidating.

In fairness to TGC, I don't think anybody considers that Medinah course a high quality recreation. It would be very interesting though to see you do a similar comparison of #17 at Florida Glades vs. friendBOMBER's version of TPC Sawgrass. That would really be taking a well known hole with two quality recreations.

I have already seen that comparison that you posted and agree the TGC version in that case looks great.
If I had to choose I would say for that particular hole PG and TGC are just as good.
If you can find any more quality examples like that please share. I have looked and never seen one until you showed us the mentioned hole.

davray666 that looks great! Your version looks indeed better.

I have been testing PG with Skytrak for about 2 weeks now and an extremely impressed. For people who have been playing the E6 demo. PG blows it away and is so much more realistic.

On the topic of designing courses in PG. The capability to use the 'course forge' has been promised for a long time by PP but has yet to be released for general use. Therefore it stands to reason that the pool of people capable of producing PG courses is extremely limited, simply because the means to create courses has not been released. Thus the number of course designs available for PG isn't exactly going to be overwhelming.

More telling is the delay in announcing the course publishing model which is, by all accounts, going to require that only PG users buying a 'season's pass' will be able to use published courses.

This contrasts with TGC in that anyone can publish and anyone with the game can use the published courses.

There's a lot of unearned euphoria about this pre-release (in other words beta) PG software due to glossing over its limitations, and the lack of information about the pricing and subscription model.

Regarding @Tekbud's comment above, does anyone know for sure PG (for GC2 or ST - not just the game) will be able to run on Mac as well? Thanks.

Guest sorry to have ruffled your feathers. The information I posted was from postings on a PG site which I believed to be accurate.

I still understand that neither PG, nor it's Course Forge have been released. Both are beta products. Is that not true?

There is no hard information about a release date for PG, the pricing model or the ability to access course designs. Is that also not true?

          • Medinah. The bottom one looks easier.

            • I'm confused as I also thought the bottom version looks easier...

              • I believe he's getting at the fact that the PG version appears to be a crowned green sloped down to bunkers on all sides, where the TGC version appears to be fairly flat around the green.

I saw that comparison before and don't know that this course was designed by one of the "better" TGC designers. I think it's universally accepted that courses such as Pine Valley, Augusta, Pebble...etc design by the great TGC user designers are amazing looking.

Agreed. I think the best comparison would be #17 at Florida Glades vs. friendBOMBER's version of TPC Sawgrass.

Exactly that version of TPC Sawgrass is great.

I also have played the Florida Glades (PG's TPC Sawgrass) and it is great too, but to my eye I like the TPC version slightly better.

              • I think I'll be hacking it around in 85 whatever version I play!!

I managed to find my way to the guy that approve beta access but "unfortunately we have closed the PG beta period. It shouldn’t be long now though!"

                • My comment on what course version would be easier to play was not serious. It was an ironic response to a previous post.
