  • SkyTrak @ PGA Show 2016

    Figured I'd get this rollin'.

Taking centre stage, literally, at SkyCaddie’s booth #1301 at this year’s PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Florida, will be the highly-rated and award-winning SkyTrak personal launch monitor / golf simulator.

Since stocks reached the UK in November 2015 SkyTrak has drawn consistently positive reviews from the golf clubs and golfers who placed an early order, and the 2016 PGA Merchandise Show represents the perfect opportunity for UK PGA professionals and retailers making the trip to Orlando to try it for themselves.

And one visitor to the SkyCaddie booth will walk away with a valuable bonus this year, as everyone who has a SkyTrak demonstration at the 2016 PGA Show will be entered into a free prize draw to win their own SkyTrak system.

Alongside SkyTrak will be SkyCaddie’s world-class line-up of GPS distance measuring devices, set to be boosted by some new GPS product announcements to be made at this year’s Show. SkyCaddie’s popular SkyPro, now firmly established as golf’s leading personal swing analysis and training device, is expected to be another big attraction.

“Although it has only recently come into general use, SkyTrak is already being acknowledged as truly game-changing new golf technology throughout the industry” said SkyCaddie’s Senior Vice-President International Sales & Marketing, Jacqui Surman.

“With more and more PGA professionals now using SkyTrak for club fitting and coaching, and with the fast-growing amount of golf courses available to play through SkyTrak in golf simulator mode, SkyTrak’s powerhouse features set at an equally powerful price point is proving unbeatably attractive – and we’ve only just got started as regards using SkyTrak to its full potential.

“It will undoubtedly be one of the stars of this year’s Show, and we expect it to attract a large number of first-time visitors to our booth – where they will also find our best-ever line-up of GPS devices and the ever-impressive SkyPro too”.

Tom Field, Head Pro at The Wychwood GC in the Cotswolds, was one of the early adopters of SkyTrak in the UK. “In the first week I would say that we sold nine extra sets of golf clubs because we had a SkyTrak on hand, so it’s been a revolution already in that aspect” he said. “I already view our SkyTrak as essential for our custom-fitting operation here.

“SkyTrak does what other far more expensive launch monitors do, but at a fraction of the price. With the added simulator functions, it will help us to expand our business and offer a buying and entertainment experience which the internet cannot offer”.

Tom Atkinson, Head PGA Professional at Heswall GC on The Wirral, was another of the first UK customers for SkyTrak. “In just the first week I used SkyTrak to do a wedge gapping fitting, and entertained a group of golfers with a Nearest The Pin challenge when the course was temporarily closed during torrential rain” he said. “We’ve already sold one SkyTrak to a member, with another group pledging to club together to buy one for shared use.

“The SkyTrak graphics are simply stunning. We easily hooked it up to our big TV and had no problem running the WGT Golf sim software, which looks incredible and very lifelike. Also, as there are no cameras to set up, it’s a piece of cake to switch it for a left-hander to use.

“It’s an incredibly good piece of kit which we will use a lot this winter, let alone during the season. I already feel that SkyTrak is adding value to our memberships at Heswall GC, which is absolutely crucial these days”.

Also if possible, see what is the shortest chip that will register on all sim options and the skytrak range.

I bought the unit on pre-order. Software-wise there were some issues early on with club editing, distances etc but the actual measured info has been and still is accurate. Even the software issues I excuse as I would rather have had the unit when I did than wait for more refined software.

The issue I have is with the company. When I bought SkyTrak, I bought (and I say "bought" for a reason) the game-improvement package. At first I was happy because it suffered from some of the same software deficiencies as the main app. Then about 9 months into my first year I found out that I only "rented" the game improvement app and that I did not own it. I was and still am very displeased. It was not promoted initially as a subscription. So instead of owning something that would be improved over time, I rented a garbage app that stunk to high heaven. SkyTrak's remedy? A DISCOUNT on the current year's subscription. Huh? I could not be more disappointed in the way that was handled. For the money they want, I can do without the "challenges" or the syncing and recording of data on their site even though I thought I owned it - nevermind that the data I generate is mine and not theirs.

So Seth and SportTrak: good product and Seth thanks for all of your efforts - why you chose a partner that does business like Sky-whoeverthehelltheyare is beyond me.
SkyCaddie or SkyGolf or whoever you are: incompetent to say the least..... many more words if I were to assume intent.

As to simulation - that wasn't part of the deal when I bought, so not comments and I have no objection tp paying a subscription fee to use that feature. Its an add-on ans was no sold with the unit initially. And no comments about the customer service as I have never used it.

In all honesty, simulation really WAS sold with the unit. The seemingly one-time fee of $99 was supposed to open the door to simulation. It goes without saying that everyone assumed that meant there would be no ongoing fees to be allowed to use it as a sim. We were all fooled into believing we could buy Skytrak, then at some future point, we could then buy simulation software to go with it. It wasn't expressed clearly enough that we would never truly OWN the right to use it as a sim.

I just saw a link that said that SkyTrak will be previewing PG, TGC, and TruGolf software at the show. No info on availability, costs, dates of releases, etc. in what I've seen so far.

I wonder if they'll have any hardware sales to go with the show.

So ambiguous "In addition to its integration with the very popular WGT Golf, SkyTrak is previewing integration with three additional golf simulation partners - Perfect Golf, The Golf Club Game and TruGolf. With these additions SkyTrak now provides play on hundreds of stunning high-definition golf courses on multiple platforms to include iOS, Android and PCs." They are "previewing" but yet it's "now" ready. I am very hopeful but very concerned as well.

I like that it's saying tgc and Android as well. My fear was that they still go with e6 next and wait to release one after the other with time in between

Just imagine if they can't get their s..t together and release one of the 3 this week AND do not provide a concrete release date. What then? What's the next catalyst for release? Not saying that everyone rushes for the door to flightscope or gc2 - but seriously - its going to be tough sticking with ST.

Fingers crossed they get it done and deliver. I expect there to be some issues with any or all of the software, but they need to get it out there. I will be happy to join some of these tours. I'm an amateur golfer and will shoot poorly, but it should be great practice.

God speed skygolf. This is your chance.

I'm 100% with you. I just want to practice. playing one of the tours would be awesome. I'm a 20 hcp so it's just for practice and trying to get better. The tours are especially good for practicing to make a shot when it counts hahahaha has been my weakness. I play ok until I have a chance to beat someone and then I mess up the last two holes hahahaha

I dont see any presentations by them listed on the schedule any day this week and I figured we would have already heard something by now. Guess its back to that ugly ass e6 demo for a while.

I've been planning my home setup and I've been browsing this forum for about a month. It seems as though Skytrak has been in for a lot of bashing, but there is nothing that offers similar functionality at even twice the price. I've been waiting to see what the Ernest Sports ES16 can do and at what price, but at $4k for what looks to be a half-baked product (no chipping and putting as according to today's forum thread) it isn't a serious competitor. The default advice (just buy a used GC-2, as if they're lying around like confetti) is effectively useless because there are none available. I think we should applaud Skytrak for what it is - good hardware at a price that is likely giving the competition fits and that should bring prices down for everything. Sure, great sim integration would be nice and might well be coming, 3s is a bit long to wait for the trace to appear, and I really, really dislike subscription-based products (which is why I will never buy a skycaddie) but regardless, at $2k, Skytrak is going to enable me to have a real launch monitor and a home setup that I would not otherwise have had. And the money I save on range balls is probably going to make up the subscription fees!

My only question, how long before Skytrak version 2....?

This forum is one of the reason why I bought my Skytrak in December, and conversely a reason why I've bordered on buyers remorse. However, in spite of that, and the deficiencies that exist on the Sim side of the product, I've gotten comfortable with Skytrak for why I bought it. I bought it for indoor practice, particularly to tighten up my iron and wedge play (pitching). I've found within a few short weeks that I can rely on the numbers I get from 200 yds and in, particularly for the short game shots 100 yds and in. I put my frustration aside for the driver/fairway wood, but since that's a strength of my game, I don't need Skytrak for that work.

I would encourage anybody who is considering Skytrak to determine where you will be most satisfied with the product, practice/challenges or simulation. If simulation improves on WGT, I may play it more often, but I'm satisfied that the practice/challenges have proven themselves when I've taken what I've worked on to the course.

Hopefully something will be confirmed at the show that improves the product, but as Seth indicated the focus on getting aligned with the Sim partners, I don't expect much additional improvement on the algorithms as a priority. I'm certainly in the boat that I can't throw additional dollars at the other Sim options, so I'll take improvements on WGT and be happy for the occasional gameplay (improved).

I actually have to agree. If ST just fixes some of the minor but annoying bugs in their app + get WGT to improve to be somewhat like a real sim like allowing multi-player and fix some of the bugs like putting and auto-putts, soft chips and some of the view angles (no need to have super graphics, moving trees or thousands of courses w course designs) I'd be a reasonably happy camper (though prob will still be GC2 envy wishing I had gotten a good cheap used GC2 when it was available last summer). But based on info so far, I have to say ST trumps ES16.

                  • #30
It's all about one's expectations going in. I for one believed ST's claims (in all their sales literature) that ST was both a launch monitor and part of an integrated sim platform.

Depends on what you define as "sim" Mario. I mean if Yugo can call itself a car then I assume WGT can call itself "an integrated sim platform."

Fair point. WGT doesn't feel like a sim to me. Perhaps it does to others.
