  • Update and Sneak Peak at v2.2

    Hey everybody,

I'm finally back. It's been an insane last few weeks. I wanted to pop in quickly and give an update on a few things:

    1) v2.2 - We had an unexpected body of development work come out of the PGA show. It had to do with how the SkyTrak unit communicates with the software and was a huge change, but it is certainly for the best and improves the connection stability. The changes we made will directly affect all of our simulation partners as well and make for a more enjoyable game play experience. I have been in contact with some of you and used your accounts to test the data sync issues - I have been successful on all accounts, syncing data in every connection scenario possible. We still have a few small items to take care of in the background and I hate to release anything on a Friday, but here's the deal - I will give you guys what I have right now for PC to play around with over the weekend. Install at your own risk and please don't call customer support on it. I'll be back on Monday to handle any and all concerns.

    v2.2.0
    - Added new Practice Green Feature
    - Added unit internal leveling information
    - Added player ball markers in multi-player challenges
    - Added Undefined Club option
    - Added ability to choose club during challenges
    - Improved Profile History
    - Improved Device Connection Stability
    - Improved Data Sync process (indicator now in Profile)
    - Improved local database
    - Adjusted scale of shot plotting graph
    - Added Alignment Mode reminder
    - Added fine-tune adjustment to Target Challenge
    - Added loading screen to enter Practice
    - Added side spin to session export
    - Refreshed Challenge Dashboard Icons
    - Temporarily disabled Stats
    - Numerous behind-the-scenes bug fixes

    2) TGC - This is out of my hands. I can tell you that everything is ready on the integration side and the team is working to get it up for sale. Please don't shoot the messenger.

    3) WGT - The driver distance issue has been fixed! This will be included in their next update.

    4) TruGolf & Perfect Golf - I can count the number of outstanding issues on one hand. Again, I just can't personally comment on release.

I know that some of this is not what you want to hear, but please understand that while my avatar says "SkyTrak", I'm not the company and I don't control every facet of it. I'm just here to get feedback from avid golfers on our software and to try and help out whenever I can. I'd like for my role here to shift back to that as opposed to fielding questions and complaints and release dates and company practices. We've all seen first-hand that it's just not productive in the end and creates a hostile and non-constructive environment that, to be honest, isn't that fun to walk into. Those are often legitimate gripes, but there are just too many players in the game for me to make personal promises. I want to focus more on things within my control where I can provide you the most rapid, helpful, and solid response possible. I truly believe that we can and will continue to make this product better and better.

    -Seth

Thanks Seth! Always good when we see that skytrak logo pop up in the forums, at least means you are tying to put out some fires and concerns.

Thanks Seth SkyTrak_Seth - you are the man!! I'm curious if this release includes a firmware update for the device if someone can check and post back, or if this just software?

I think we all just like being informed and have something to look forward to. We know there are bumps in the road and that's fine, just would be nice to hear things like what exact day you guys are expecting to release and if it doesn't happen then a quick reason why and then possibly a future date. Maybe that's just me though, Id rather have a potential release date and it be wrong for some reason and be informed then to just sit blindly day after day reading the forums hoping for something with no real end in sight. Thanks again though, I know you guys want this to release as much as we do!

I am still wanting angle of descent and apex height. Seems like all the updates are geared toward simulation stuff lately and not much for the club fitting people.

Does this require the Game Improvement annual fee to access?

Very good update. I just tried hitting at practice greens from 150 to 100 yards out. Love it. Looking forward to seeing what stats are offered when 2.2 goes live for real.

I would like to see a side-view plot of the shot (like the E6 range has..showing shot height). And maybe better graphics, the textures are very low res. Grass is a blur of neon green.

One issue I did have was that for the first 2-3 minutes, the app was lagging very bad. Clicking buttons would take 10-15 seconds for the click to register. Shots would hang in mid-air every 20 yards, then resume. I had this problem for a few weeks right after 2.1 was released, but it went away. Hopefully its also temporary with 2.2.

I think having practice greens with stat tracking is a very good upgrade to the range. It gives you just a little more reason to take each shot seriously. If the updates keep coming, in 5-10 years this will be one heck of a product :-)

Now w the next update of WGT, will the dreaded autoputt bug be fixed as well? Thanks.

Doing pretty well, and thanks for asking! Most nights are alright, we just have the stray no-sleeper to deal with every now and then. It's a lot tougher also having a 2 year old to deal with this go around

Glad to hear, keep your head down and charge LOL I have a 9 year old and a 3 year old as well, it's a lot of work but nothing beats when they wrap their little arms around you.

I just want to make sure we get the bottom of this data sync issue once and for all. The logs you guys have sent with v2.2 have been great, so whenever we find the root cause, I'll submit to apple.

                        Hi Seth,

Just downloaded the update for PC and using it. Looks good. But one thing you might want to put in as extra options. It is great that there is now metric distances, which were there in the previous PC version. But I noticed now that swing speed and ball speed have also changed to metric in kilometres per hour, no choice when metres is selected for distance .

Had me looking twice when I saw the numbers come up, for a second I thought I had 160mph ball speed using a 6 iron... LoL (I could only wish) and then realised it was in kilometres per hour and not miles.

I realise that skytrak is not officially released yet in Australia. But... May I suggest that when it finally is, that there are options to have metric distance, but extra options to choose if the golfer wants to see speed in kilometres per hour or miles per hour.

It's a funny thing here in Australia, that while we use metric distances out on the course and even when golf is on Tv the commentators talk distance in metres. But, swing speed is not. Swing speed and ball speed are still talked about in miles per hour.

                        Weird, I know.

So it would be great if there was an extra option if the golfer picks metres for distance, that other options show up that would allow the golfer to have swing speed/ball speed, left as miles per hour if they wanted.

Hahaha. I went back and forth with those wonky Brits about this and they all said they wanted straight metric. Now I have to take care of the wonky Australians! Just kidding, I'll make an additional option in settings so you can choose MPH vs KPH.
