So here's my results from tonight. I had two different kinds of no reads. With the wedges, all 3 lights stayed green and the laser never disappeared. The far less common no read on full iron shots showed the top light red with the bottom two lights green. Just like a normal, properly read shot shows.

I hit probably 25 sand wedge shots on the Skytrak range from 5 to 40 yards or so. Every single one of them registered. This was with a gold nickel Vokey wedge. This was immediately after playing 18 holes on TGC and having multiple pitch shots not get picked up.

I have what I hope is good news however... After that range test, I lowered my Skyrak some as I thought maybe it's sitting too high above the mat. After doing so, I played 18 holes and only had one soft putt not register. So much better results. It just seems like the Skytrak/TGC connection is more sensitive to these type of shots than the Skytrak range itself. I will report back once my friends come back over and play again. Like I mentioned before, I make better contact than they do on pitch and chip shots. Hopefully though it was human error that was causing the extreme repeated occurrence of the non registered shots.

I had a friend over to check out my sim and he rarely plays golf , we played TGC lots of his shots didn't register and I could tell he was not hitting the ball cleanly , I normally only get 2/3 no reads a round. Skytrak range seems less sensitive To badly struck shots

Precisely. It's all about contact and TGC is far more sensitive to poor contact. Like I mentioned earlier, I hit 25 or so wedges on the Skytrak range and I purposefully chunked many of those. I made sure to hit well behind the ball. Every one of those registered whereas they wouldn't in TGC. Check your height of your Skytrak versus your mat. Make sure your unit isn't sitting too high above it. This seem to help a little for me. I had my dad play 9 holes and his game is very rusty therefore he isn't making very good contact right now. He had 2 full iron shots not get picked up, but all of his pitch/chip shots were captured. Need more testing to say for sure though if this adjustment is to thank or if it was just blind luck. My theory is that if it's too high, those lower launching, low spinning knuckle balls that a chunky shot creates aren't entering the capture window high enough for the Skytrak to register them. We shall see. Hopefully though Skytrak and Protee can help to alleviate this issue and create a larger margin of error for a shot registering.

Hmmm... not sure that you are right in your assertion that TGC is more sensitive to poor contact.

The only device sensing anything is the SkyTrak. TGC is software, not hardware.

The issue appears to be the interface from SkyTrak to TGC. TGC can only display results based on what SkyTrak has passed to it.

The interface, if anything, is to blame for the 'sensitivity' issues.

I'm fully aware TGC is software not hardware. I probably just didn't properly word my original post. All I know is that I've never had a single problem in the Skytrak range, but as soon as I fire up TGC the no reads start popping up. I'll leave it up to guys a lot smarter than me at ProTee United and SkyTrak_Seth to figure out and explain that. I completely forgot to try the new Skytrak firmware update last night, so we'll see if that helps.

On another note, the Skytrak apparently doesn't like Fiberbuilt mats. Could hardly get it to read any putts, no matter the length on my new Fiberbuilt mat. I didn't have time to screw with unit height with it yet, so maybe I can get it adjusted.

Which model of Fiberbuilt mat you are using?

Have you all upgraded to firmware 1.5? I would suggest doing so. Its a more stable firmware and I am not getting any non reads.

It's the regular ultra fairway. I've went back to the CCE for now.

Hi Guys, I posted this on the other TGC Skytrak forum... I'm losing my connection with the Skytrak after about 8 holes or so... the top light stays red so I can't do any more shots. Anyone encounter this? I just upgraded to the new firmware yesterday... didn't seem to have this problem before hand... I did have it with e6 though mind you but it went away a few months ago. Thanks!!

Download for PC is on this thread, it does the firmware update with this automatically once you download it and connect the skytrak

I'm finally realizing that the red laser isn't "one size fits all". I think ball placement is different for everyone. It takes some trial and error, but my friends and I have figured out where the ball needs to be placed for different clubs and shot types for that particular person. I have friends that are low ball hitters with their wedges and placing the ball behind the dot around an inch provides almost guaranteed registered shots. Same goes for their woods. Sometime sthey launch it too low for the unit to pick it up. Others launch the ball higher on wedges and they put the ball in front of the dot. I know ball placement in relation to the laser has been discussed before but I think it varies from player to player. Anyway, just a suggestion for those who might be frustrated. Now that we have figured out our spots so to speak, the no reads are now quite rare.
