Skytrak Bugs and TGC

I got TGC with my GC2 the day it came out. Distances were off. We came up with the right firmware/ Interface combo within a week and it's been butter ever since. TGC/ Skytrak has been out for one day. My pov is it'll be fine with tweeks.

Post all of the data and people will see what's wrong. A guy once said TGC was broken and he was chipping with putter selected. Post all data. Club, course, hole, numbers.

Earlier today I set out to recreate what I experienced last night. I rounded up a new USB extension cable that I connected to a webcam. I figured out the perfect place to position it so you could see the Skytrak laser go on and off as I waggled the club in front of it. I found an app that would allow me to record my screen while showing an overlay from the webcam. I loaded up the Skytrak range and hit and recorded some 8 irons that carried 155 yards as expected. I then went into the course I played on TGC last night expecting to capture video of TGC going crazy with yardages and ghost shots so I could show all of you punters that I am not crazy....

But, today the gameplay on TGC with my Skytrak was perfect. Yardages were spot on. Shot shapes were just as expected. Action on the green was great. I absolutely could not recreate any of the issues I saw last night. I tried three different courses. All played excellently.

My only saving grace is that a couple of other forum members posted that they experienced the same thing.

So, I apologize to anyone whose decision to purchase TGC for their Skytrak I may have influenced. Based on today's gameplay I think it's an amazing combination. If you're on the fence about purchasing.... go for it. Don't be a punter like me...

PS - I have no idea if I'm using the term "punter" correctly, but Australian brother in law uses it all of the time and the commentators from the LPGA in Adelaide were using it, and I love the word...

Great to hear jrz. Look TGC is accurate. It's been well tested. The few needed tweaks with low spin drives will be updated with version 3.0. Make sure you check elevations/wind/spin/rough/sand etc that can influence distance. If there are any issues, let's post screen shots.

I'm really confused guys. Could the improvements have anything to do with the new skytrak 2.2 app? Did you all install that? Just trying to figure out how one day the game isn't playable and the next day it's perfect?

I have not installed the new skytrak app. It just worked out of the gate.

Nah, the TGC "engine" is completely stand-alone.

Don't know either. I downloaded the pre release 2.2 app a week ago and haven't yet downloaded the official one yet. Very strange. Great to hear though jrz!

It's not related to 2.2 I am not sure why the difference but most likely related to ST measurements especially spin. TGC with ST has been well tested. TGC has been used by many different platforms and performs well. If anything changes just post some screenshots to check for any weird bugs.

Ok punters, it happened again. I started a around, and on the first green as I was going through my normal pre-shot routine the SkyTrak laser went out and TGC registered it as a shot. Once I got past that hole I set up for a drive, waggled my club, the SkyTrak laser went out and TGC registered a shot.

So, SkyTrak_Seth, is this being caused by the SkyTrak? This has never happened with the the ST app or in the E6 demo.
So, ProTee United, why are these problems unique to TGC?

After recording these videos I rebooted my PC and power cycled the SkyTrak unit. Everything went back to normal after that.

Issue posted. Within hours, ProTee United suggested a workaround SkyTrak_Seth is already working on a fix. Awesome guys! Very happy to go with SkyTrak and TGC.

ProTee United and SkyTrak_Seth I was able to reproduce both the false shots being registered and the over-calculation of distance problem last night. Both occurred in the same session. I was able to get things back to normal only by rebooting and starting over (i.e. just exiting TGC and restarting the app and restarting the SkyTrak unit did not fix the problem).

Only had a chance to play a few holes yesterday afternoon but seemed as if my unit distances and spin were off as reported earlier with a few phantom shots as well.

It seems to be an intermittent issue with mine, is it the same with the others?

When Seth stated they think they know what the issue is and are working on it is he referring to this or a putter issue?

Yes, this is an intermittent issue. I have played about five rounds so far and during two of those I had this issue. The second time I quickly recognized the readings were off and had to restart everything (PC and SkyTrak) to get it back to normal.

This is not a club specific issue. When this "bug mode" occurring phantom shots can be triggered by any shot (my foot even triggered a shot once) and the distance issues are most noticeable with shots with higher backspin numbers (i.e. higher lofted clubs seem to go much further). I think woods will also go further than they are supposed to but it's harder to tell since their backspin numbers are relatively low compared to approach irons.

Just tried playing a few holes this morning and it is simply unplayable when it acts up like that......Seems like you can't miss a drive, balls goes perfectly straight and 250 down the middle and the irons go back to crazy long. My 8 iron is a 150-160 total club and tried using it on a 145 par 3. Hit tee shot over and over and my carry showed 185 with totals coming in from 190-200. NOT IN MY GAME! I am not tech savvy enough to do a video or screen shot of this but it sounds like some others are having the same thing. Baffling why it's intermittent?

The phantom shots and weird distances with irons are intermittent, but the spin problems with approach shots to greens is not. Any shot that I hit to a green other than a chip shot, sand shot or wedge flop right around the green will not hold the green, everyone of them hits and rolls all the way off the back side regardless. I can see that others are experiencing this and when I get chance this afternoon I will post some screen shots.

Can't agree more with the green not holding. But i guess ST & TGC are aware and making changes.

However I do experience all my shots hardly having any side spin on them, making my shots 99% straight (How i wish all was real)... Even when i deliberately slice a driver, it still goes straight with only distance affected on bad shots.
Finally i gave up and launch ST app and try out all my shots... True enough shots' side spins were there. Driver shots just goes hay wire when I have a bad swing.

I did a quick search around the forum for anyone with the same experience but couldn't. Makes me wonder, am I the only one with this issue? Without the spin numbers, TGC does not feels real enough as a sim. Feels more like a video game.

I am curious on why this affects some ST's and not others. Mine works great. I managed to properly slice and hook the snot out of my shots just like real life.

I place the ball about 3 inches behind the red dot with my putter and it NEVER missed a read. Iron spin and holding greens was fine. I have a demo ST that I purchased in September.

All related to the same bug. We hope to have a fix very soon. This is only related to the SkyTrak. All other hardware does not have this issue. Nothing wrong with TGC shaping shots.

Must add that not every SkyTrak user is experiencing the same problem.

This make sense. Probably all spin numbers from ST not sent to TGC to map out the shot. Also explains why green doesn't hold at all.. Ok waiting patiently for a fix. Other than the above, all are pretty good.
