  • GC2 Megaflash

I have a batch of flashes assembled, tested, and ready to go. I have worked with Tretee on the JNPG forum on this design. He is a very skilled engineer with extensive flash design experience and test equipment. Here are the highlights of the new design.
1.) It will definitely work with serial numbers 4200 and above
    - This is the point when Foresight started shipping their newest driver circuit board. The new driver can handle more current than the old one. The Foresight Superflash requires the newest driver board because it uses a larger bulb that needs more current to flash. The Megaflash uses less current than a Superflash but more than the old style, so to be safe I am saying 4200 and above.
    - If you have a lower serial number and are interested in testing the Megaflash send me a PM for more info.
2.) It comes with a 1 year warranty
    - If it stops working within the first year I will send you a new circuit board that goes inside the housing for free. Foresight's Superflash has a prorated 1 year warranty
    - I expect it to last several years in a personal-use setting.
3.) The case has been designed to be reusable
    - It is 3D printed on a $200k industrial printer for the highest quality print that I could find. It has a matte texture but no visible layers or extrusions like personal printers
    - It has a glass infrared filter instead of a plastic one
    - The back can be removed to put a new circuit board in
4.) It has a life expectancy on par with the Superflash.
    - During longevity testing, we were able to run a bulb for over 2 million flashes which equates to 200k shots.
    - Each flash is tested for brightness on a light meter that I built to be brighter than the old design for reliable readings
    5.) A complete module costs $150.
    - If you bought one of my other designs, I will give you $10 off a new one.
    - Please add $10 for shipping to the UK and understand that it will take about 2 weeks to arrive. I can ship faster but cost will go up significantly.
6.) Additional circuit boards for inside will be $100/piece.
    - I am going to hold off on selling extra boards until I can get everyone who is interested a complete module

To purchase a flash, please send Paypal to gc2flash@gmail.com. Include your shipping address and forum username in the notes please. I will post when the first batch is gone. I have parts to build more so I will be replenishing my stock as they sell. If you have any questions, please post them below since other people may have the same question.

I just tracked the first batch of flashes and it looks like 5 of you will be getting them today, 2 people get them tomorrow, and 2 Saturday (sorry international guys, yours don't have expected delivery dates yet). Please feel free to post any observations (good or bad) here or you can send me a PM if you would prefer. I'm especially curious if anyone notices issues with certain firmwares since it appears Foresight is saying that the superflash needs 4.0 or higher. I have been running 3.5.1 and haven't seen anything strange but it would be good to hear confirmation from you guys as well.

Used mine tonight; I'm running latest firmware and it worked as advertised with no noticeable difference from the OEM. Assuming it lasts, you've got a great product and priced just right. Thanks!

Do any of you who are in the first batch running units with serial numbers below 4200?

I've been using the mega flash for a few days now and it's been working great so far. Even better than the OEM one that I had, as I believe that one was in the early stages of going out - every once in a while I would get ------s for a shot, but that hasn't happened once so far with the Mega Flash. My GC2 has a serial number in the A1000s. HOWEVER, it is possible that the driver board has been updated by Foresight at some point in the past - I bought the GC2 used. My GC2 shows H/W Rev 2 and I'm running the latest 4.x firmware.

          Thanks Andy!

Thanks for the feedback Mack! I have heard from several people who contacted Foresight that their stance now is that the superflash will work with any serial number and the new firmware. There may be a very small percentage of units that have issues with the superflash but that is not directly correlated with serial number. It sounds like those would be driver boards that were already on their way out and the extra current demands of the superflash pushed it over the edge. In the unlikely event that this happens with one of my flashes, I will repair the driver board for free and pay for shipping both ways within the US or one way for international people. Since several people have heard the same thing, I'm going to edit the first post and remove the serial number stipulation. I'm still working to get more assembled and will post when they are ready.

I have more flashes available. I can't edit the original post so ignore that it says they are out of stock. I will be going to the post office on Saturday to mail them. I have heard from 3 separate people that the superflashes work with any serial number, so this design should work with any serial number as well. You can send paypal to gc2flash@gmail.com. The cost is $150/module or $140 if you bought one of my other designs. It comes with a full 1 year warranty but should last several years for personal use. Please add $10 for shipping outside of North America and understand that it may take a couple of weeks to arrive. Tracking information will be provided.

I just received a flash from Andy, and I played 18 last night.

First of all, I can't thank Andy enough, forget the fact it works and his shipping was fast. The fact I feel GC2 completely mishandled the GS situation by attempting to rape and extort new owners really had me wishing I didn't get a great unit. They could have handled it so much differently and encouraged people to send in for registration and tune up for a reasonable consolidated cost and embrace the new market, but no. The beauty of America is that created a vacuum and Andy has filled it and really with What andy is doing, it is great and I hope it is great side money for him, he deserves it. Money savings aside, he has made having a GC2 enjoyable and not like a burden, and I just can't thank him enough for his initiative to apply relatable skills he has. I can't convey how grateful I am that you are doing this.

other than that if you are reading this because you are looking for a flash and found this or andy in internet searches, don't hesistate to send him money for a flash. Great guy, great product, nuff said. Mine is only a day old, but frankly I would rather support Andy if anynissues come up and work with him. I am a small business owner and always tinker with side things and what he is doing should have the GC2 communities full support. I hope he sells hundreds a year. I know I will be getting a backup in the next couple months.

i also have 2 housings from my old flashes, if they are of use to you let me know.

              THANKS Andy!

Wow! Thank you so much for your kind words! I agree with your assessment of how foresight chose to handle the golfsmith bankruptcy putting used GC2 owners in a tight spot. This whole thing started because I knew I would eventually need another flash and didn't want to shell out a ton of money for something I knew i could make for much less. There are also so many other great people on this forum that I didn't want to see get taken advantage of. Let me know if you run into any issues and happy golfing!

Payment sent. I still have one spare flash and current one is fine so with this i'm good for a few years.

I used my Mega Flash for the first time today. It arrived a lot faster than expected. My only issue with a review is my last flash was Andy’s last flash and it was amazing. I didn’t have any issues. This one works perfectly as well. Lol. Thanks Andy

I've been playing around with mine over the last few days and for the most part it works perfectly! My older flash would miss some of the delicate chips and pitches and so far there has not been a single shot, of any type, that Andy's Megaflash has missed! Absolutely worth the investment for anyone on the fence.

Only question I have for Andy and anyone who has this flash...when I putt, I hear like a rattle/clicky noise. I did not hear this with my old flash. The unit seems to read everything correctly but I just wonder if anyone else has the same experience?

                    Thanks Andy!

That is normal. It is just the flash firing. I'm actually surprised that you didn't hear it with your old one. On putts the flash is firing much more slowly so you can hear the individual flashes after you hit the ball. On full swing shots, the flash is firing at basically the same time that you are hitting the ball so you don't hear it over the sound of the club hitting the ball. Here is an older thread with someone else hearing the same thing.
Has anyone heard the high speed camera / flash noise during a really light chip or during putting? I recently started using TGC software, so I've been putting

When are you planning to sell the internal components so we can purchase spares?

Probably in a month or two. I have been able to build them just a little faster than people are ordering them so I don't have too many spares right now. I suspect that orders will slow down soon and then I can build up some extra internals in case anyone wants to buy a spare one.
