  • GC2 Megaflash

I have a batch of flashes assembled, tested, and ready to go. I have worked with Tretee on the JNPG forum on this design. He is a very skilled engineer with extensive flash design experience and test equipment. Here are the highlights of the new design.
1.) It will definitely work with serial numbers 4200 and above
    - This is the point when Foresight started shipping their newest driver circuit board. The new driver can handle more current than the old one. The Foresight Superflash requires the newest driver board because it uses a larger bulb that needs more current to flash. The Megaflash uses less current than a Superflash but more than the old style, so to be safe I am saying 4200 and above.
    - If you have a lower serial number and are interested in testing the Megaflash send me a PM for more info.
2.) It comes with a 1 year warranty
    - If it stops working within the first year I will send you a new circuit board that goes inside the housing for free. Foresight's Superflash has a prorated 1 year warranty
    - I expect it to last several years in a personal-use setting.
3.) The case has been designed to be reusable
    - It is 3D printed on a $200k industrial printer for the highest quality print that I could find. It has a matte texture but no visible layers or extrusions like personal printers
    - It has a glass infrared filter instead of a plastic one
    - The back can be removed to put a new circuit board in
4.) It has a life expectancy on par with the Superflash.
    - During longevity testing, we were able to run a bulb for over 2 million flashes which equates to 200k shots.
    - Each flash is tested for brightness on a light meter that I built to be brighter than the old design for reliable readings
    5.) A complete module costs $150.
    - If you bought one of my other designs, I will give you $10 off a new one.
    - Please add $10 for shipping to the UK and understand that it will take about 2 weeks to arrive. I can ship faster but cost will go up significantly.
6.) Additional circuit boards for inside will be $100/piece.
    - I am going to hold off on selling extra boards until I can get everyone who is interested a complete module

To purchase a flash, please send Paypal to gc2flash@gmail.com. Include your shipping address and forum username in the notes please. I will post when the first batch is gone. I have parts to build more so I will be replenishing my stock as they sell. If you have any questions, please post them below since other people may have the same question.

Hi Andy, would you be willing to ship to Australia? Do they have a shelf life? I just bought a used GC2, and have no idea how long it will last.

          Cheers

Yes I can ship to Australia. Please add $10 for shipping and understand that it will probably take around 2 weeks to get there. I haven't shipped to Australia before but that's about how long it takes to get to European countries with USPS first class mail. Also, if you can limit your order to one right now so more people can get them, you can purchase a spare board and I will cover the shipping on a second one in a few months.

I can ship USPS first class to the UK for an extra $10. In the past it takes 10 days to 2 weeks but depends if it gets caught up in customs.

Big sticker on back, I bet you have 10,000A or higher based on date of purchase

Please hold off on sending any more payments for now. I need to build more flashes and will have more ready in a few days. Everyone who has paid will be getting a message shortly with tracking info.

I have been playing with this new flash design in my GC2 for about a couple weeks and it works awesome, not a single hiccup at all! Andy is a stand up guy as well, highly recommend this one!

When I emailed foresight about Super Flash compatibility with my GC2 (serial # in the 3800s), this was the response. No mention of any hardware dependencies such as the driver board. They just want the firmware updated to 4.0.0.15 (which I am already running). What are your thoughts on their response?

"All GC2 devices are compatible with the Super Flash module as long as the GC2 Firmware is up to date…

                      Firmware Installation v4.0.0.15 : http://www.foresightsports.com/suppo...vers-downloads
                      1. Find the link to Firmware v4.0.0.15, from there download the file from the link.
                      2. Run the installation after the file has been successfully downloaded.
                      3. Follow the onscreen instructions, guiding to select the correct windows operating system (Win 7, Win 8, or Win 10 as well)
                      4. Connect the GC2 to your computer with the USB cable and power the GC2 on.

Then the firmware will run from the installation.
                      1. Follow the onscreen instructions no need to power off the GC2 again if the device is already powered on
                      2. Run the installation
                      3. Power off the GC2 at the end of the installation
                      4. Unplug the GC2 from the USB connection
Power back on the GC2 device and note at the top of the third loading screen that the 4.0.0.15 firmware has updated."

You are the second person who has said that was their response. Maybe they changed their thinking or were just being overly cautious at first. I had heard that they were charging $80 to "upgrade" driver boards for pre SN4200 GC2's before and that was necessary to use them with the superflash. I know someone who had both an older an newer serial number and the difference was the newer one could handle more flash current. The larger bulb needs more current, but maybe they decided that the old one was sufficient. The only reason I was saying mine won't work with older ones is I didn't want to be responsible for damaging anyone's unit. I could fix it if it did happen, but that still would be a bad situation to unnecessarily create.

As far as the firmware, I have been running 3.5.1 for a long time because I like having the flash counter and have not noticed any problems.

Too bad, I want to say I have SN1800 or something there about. Congrats on the creation!

It may end up working for you. It sounds like Foresight's stance on the driver boards has changed from what I had originally heard. I still want to find someone to do some testing with an older unit to be absolutely certain before I tell you guys something wrong.
