Yeah, pretty much as I thought too. As I said Im happy that all my distances are set to what I hit in reallife. That to me is the point of me having a sim in my workshop, to try and recreate as best I can, with the budget I have available, my real life golfing experience. With the limitations of ball striking this sim gives, ie you catch everything pretty much full face i think thats why my handicap on here is so much lower. I play off 18 IRL, but if my ball striking was 100% every round (no duffs or tops) and no drops due to lost balls in rough or water( local parkland course has plenty of trees, long rough and lakes) then should get down to single or low double figures. Playing off 8 this tourney, hit a level par and a +4. To me I dont think I could get much more accurate than that so Im happy.Originally posted by Aurincoynen View Post

As Auri says, distance doesnt make you shoot low scores, it helps, but still need to be good with irons and short game

This is good reading but you can not necessarily judge a 7 iron by a driver swing speed. For me personally I don't swing a 7 iron with the same swing as I do with a driver.Originally posted by Maxxx View Posthttp://members.swingmangolf.com/swin...for-distances/ good Idea about asking the protee boys for some clubhead speed vs. Distance . Every spring when the ground is wet and the ball does not roll much, if any I GPS verify my carry. Typically a well struck drive will plug or at least leave a big ball mark in the fairways. I also played for several years at a club that had a creek crossing at 260 yards which I could carry with a well struck ball with neutral wind.
My 7 iron on the other hand is my 150 yard club. If I try to stretch it any further I run the risk of getting wild results. I tend to club up with my iron shots and swing easier with the hope of a more accurate shot.
My wood play is very much power based while my iron play is very much feel based, if that makes sense.
For what it's worth I will agree to play however we want. I would like to see the woods dialed back some to a realistic number, but if not, I guess it is what it is.

This is one reason I opposed the 80% to 100% range with the putter. In my opinion, yes the green speeds are fast, but it's easy enough as it is. Putting does not need to be any easier.Originally posted by Aurincoynen View PostI'm making a ridiculous % of my putts from inside 15 ft on this sim.

If he is swinging at 120mph he is going to be carrying the ball 300 yards. I'm around 110-115 and I carry it 270-280. Thats with a ballspeed between 160-165. Before some injuries I was around 175 ballspeed which is what Rory is around now and what Aurincoynen with 120mph would be around. He looks to swing pretty hard I say if optishot shows him carrying 300 it's probably pretty close.

I agree. With the exception of the combination of fast greens and strong winds. Only one of those at a time.Originally posted by BuckeyeThis is one reason I opposed the 80% to 100% range with the putter. I think opti is around 10 shots easier per round than Irl. It's a combination of a vast amount of things. Perfect aim, easy putting, always catching the ball perfect, no lost balls, no fatigue, no sweaty shirt or freezing hands, no exaggeration in distances, no bad lies... The list goes on and on and it all adds up on the scorecard. So yes... I think someone shooting around +10 is pretty standard for someone playing off 18 Irl. There are far too many things for us to fix in opti to get it close to irl when it comes to scores.

I too think Opti Shot is around 10 shots easier than real life, mainly because of the perfect lie every time. If I could carry around a matt with me on the course and always have a perfect lie I'd probably shoot at least a half a stroke better per hole.
I think Hogan hit the nail on the head with a previous post stating that as it is right now we are simply over powering the courses. That I think is what some of us would like changed. We either need 550 yard par 4's or we need to dial our woods back to a some what realistic number.
When I play in real life, I determine what tees I play from largely with two factors in mind. Number one being the length of the par 3's. Number two and probably most importantly is the distance of hazards from the tee box. If I am play middle tees for example and fairway bunkers are 200 yards from the tees, the course designers wasted their time installing them. I would rather play the back tees and have the fairway bunkers be in the 250 to 270 range off the tee so they are "in play".

Lots of good discussion. There are many reasons we all shoot better on Optishot (e.g., perfect lies, etc.). The best we can do is try and get our clubs set up best as possible to reflect our real game. I will be heading to the "range" later this morning to verify they match my real game. For reference, below are my real world average distances (+- ~3 yds) with a Driver swing speed ~105 mph.
Callaway X Hot Driver (9 degree): 270 yds
Callaway X Hot 3 Wood (15 degree): 240 yds
Callaway Razr X Tour 3 Hybrid: 205 yds
Callaway Razr X Tour 4 Hybrid: 195 yds
Callaway Razr X Tour 5 Iron: 180 yds
Callaway Razr X Tour 6 Iron: 170 yds
Callaway Razr X Tour 7 Iron: 160 yds
Callaway Razr X Tour 8 Iron: 150 yds
Callaway Razr X Tour 9 Iron: 140 yds
Callaway Razr X Tour PW: 125 yds
Callaway Razr X Tour GW (52 degree): 110 yds
Callaway X Series JAWS CC Wedge (56 degree): 75 yds
Callaway X Series JAWS CC Wedge LW (60 degree): 60 yds
Just checked and an average distance of 270 yd puts me at 196th on the current PGA list:

I think nearly everyone (including me BTW) agrees that 90% is the way to go and that everybodys input is needed. I just feel pretty firmly that this subject should be something where we concentrate less on criticising the individuals and their opinions or their perception of realism and more on the software itself. It will also serve us better as the conversation will get less heated as nobody will feel that their integrity or abilities are under suspicion. People will concentrate more on improving what we have and less on defending their honor and their (mis)conceptions of what might or might not be realistic. As I said earlier. Realism will be impossible... One step at a time we can make it more realistic though. Leaving out slow and semi slow greens and capping woods to 90% would probably be a good start. I've also been an advocate for back tees all the time.Originally posted by BuckeyePlease, don't stop giving your input. Some of us agree!!!!Last edited by MatalaWedge; 01-01-2015, 04:22 PM.
