Wow foam ball really screws with swing speed settings.Originally posted by Maxxx View PostOptishot tests: http://youtu.be/gX_4iSOmpNE
hey guys, I did a bit of testing at 92%, 90% real ball and foam ball. I use an "almostgolf" golfball and use the "real ball setting at 90%. It's heavier than a foam ball but lighter than a real one. I think the 90% distance is fine but I find I try to hit the ball harder now 😂
Let me know if 90 or 92 is closer to the 2.5 zone.
Also, I havent tried it yet but has anyone with a swing sense or a confirmed clubhead speed tried selecting "no ball " and swing without a ball on the optishot ? We will know exactly how much it's off by . Just an idea
cheers
I would say your 90% distance is right on the 2.5 ratio. All depends on what you think is the right swing speed reading. But if youre not a 115 swing speed type of man I would say set it 90 Speed too.
I think the Swing Speed read by Optishot is so dependant on environment. If you do beleive that you normally hit 115, SS, or to put another way hit 287 yards in real life then I guess leave it at 100 , but if youre a more normal driver then 90 seems about right.
It does appear that some peoples Opti reads swing speed high and some dont. What lighting setup have you got. ?
Just a suggestion and not sure if possible but when i first set mine up i had sky lights in my workshop. If I played in the day swing speeds read constantly high, around 112 to 117, but at night back down to 100 - 106 average. I blacked out the skylights so now have 0 ambient light in the room, and have no lights on at all other than the projector and never hand problems since
Tee height can also have an impact of speed readings too apparentlyLast edited by JohnMeyer; 01-02-2015, 09:12 PM.

Hey Joe, On foam setting I get about a 75 to 85 mph clubhead speed. I have asked DD to have an almostgolf setting al long time ago but I don't think they want to cross promote for free ?QUOTE=Joe_S;n24174]I use AlmostGolf balls too (setting "foam ball"
and set my wood distances to 90 and this seems to be the correct real life distances for me (with roll). I'll test this with setting "real ball"...[/QUOTE]

I think for people using foam balls theres going to have to be an element of swing speed adjustment as like you say there are different types of foam ball, different weights etc all providing different resistance to the swing. It must make a difference to the swing speed calculations as shown in Maxxxs video. Be interesting if all those whose swing speed reads correctly are on real balls and all those whose reads fast or slow are on foam

Surely a real ball comes off the face hotter than a foam/almost ball. Thats why we pay £4 a ball right.
if your testing against these ball types then make sure you hit those ball types when testing so dont hit a real ball with foam selected.

This does seem to be the case. I have "jagmanjoe"s aftermarket turf and it is over twice as thick as the stock turf on the Optishot. I think this is why my Swing Speed is pretty close (with a +/- variance of around 3 mph). The club head is further away from the sensors and therefore reading more in line with what my real life driver swing speed is.Originally posted by JohnMeyer View Post

I can't make sense of why Maxxx's swing speed changed so much with the foam setting. That's a huge difference. I use the Almost balls and have always selected foam. It's definitely a hybrid ball, so it's kind of in between the two.
Appreciate you guys doing all this testing. I haven't been able to play any since Tuesday. I hope to get on the range tonight and dial my driver in as well.

Holy cow, those no ball setting results were nuts. I kind of suspected all along that's how some were getting these crazy high swing speeds. I think the algorithm or something in the software is a little off.Originally posted by Aurincoynen View Post89% testing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-63...ature=youtu.be
