  • TGC Match Play - 2016 Open Flight

Attached is the bracket. Here's the instructions and rules:

    Step 1:
-Reach out to your opponent via Private Message on this forum.
-Set up a 2 hour window to play
-Please ensure your name in TGC is the same as it is in this bracket. If not, let your opponent know.
-Decide who is starting the game and inviting the other in the match

    Step 2:
-Add each other as friends in TGC using TGC nickname
-This is done at the start up screen where "start server" and "start game" is by clicking the icon with 3 heads then add your opponent.
    -Both have to do it

    Step 3:
-decide on a method of communication
-You can text, whatsapp, teamspeak, phone each other or use the new discord method. If you don't agree, we default to TeamSpeak
    -Here's TeamSpeak login

    Server Address:
    45.63.67.150:8011
    Server Password:
    ***

    Step 4:
-Both players enter TGC and go to main screen where you click play
-Both players need to set their handicap to 0. This is done by hitting play round then hitting edit on your player. There's a spot called "set handicap". Set it to 0 then save then back out to main screen if you are not the host..
-The host player now enters the match by clicking the little arrow in the first box that defaults to "Stroke Play". Set it to "Online Match Play" (has to be online) then "advance". Click "all courses" then enter the following course in the text box:

Pine Valley ProTee Championship Tees by Craig118

-start the round as you normally do then select "OPEN". You are in the lobby. Your playing partner should be listed there. Click on him and it'll invite him to the tee. Just start your game from there.
-Before hitting a shot, both players now need to click settings, turn order, set to on. This will allow you to see your partner play in real time. Other wise, you'll appear as a ghost ball. You can have it off if both agree. If you don't agree, on is the default.
-Everything should be automatic from there.

    Step 5:
-Post on this thread who won.

Good luck and feel free to post any questions of PM me.

We did play in on line match play mode. And we had no issues but we played the front 9 again only because we had played the front 9 the night before. and in the social settings we turned off the turn order or set it to 0 and it made things a little quicker.

Here's round 2. Please complete by Next Wednesday. If you can't play, your opponent goes through.

Same course. Pine Valley ProTee Championship Tees by Craig118

I recommend you play stroke play and score the match yourselves. Here's how:

        TGC Online Play:

To connect online you first have to decide on which golf course to play, as there is no lobby yet. Once both are on on the tee box, you need to connect with your friend(add Live friends to the game).

        1. Hit the ESC key
        2. Make sure Turn Order is enabled
        3. Click on Change Rivals
        4: Click on Friends Live
        5. Select the friend to add to your game. Important: You may need to Scroll down the list until you find the player(s) you want to add.
        5. Click on Back, then click on Resume Game
        6. All the players that you added to your game should show up on your screen as Live.
        7. All players can now tee off. After a few shots, all players will be synced to each other.

        8. Online play will now be turn based.

NOTE: Do not use Active Friends to add Live players

So Daddio and I had our match last night. IT was the first time for both of us using the Discord App. That is a pretty cool set up that allows us to BS while playing. Grat find whoever found that one. Unfortunately Daddio could hear me every time I cracked a new Budweiser, and with some continued technical issues with the software, he heard that crack quite often. I think net time using the invite feature to the stroke play match we might be able to get through an entire round. For our round we were knocked out after 4 holes, then just started at the beginning and used hole 1 as our hole 5 rather than conceding to move forward because that wasn't working well. Hopefully a good learning lesson for TGC with this thing as well

No prob on the cracking of Bud's, I had a couple of shots of Jack in my coffee, but I doubt you could hear me slurping it!!
It was a little frustrating having to restart several times, but it was fun. Congrats and good luck on your next rounds!

A jack guy. I toured the facilities on Friday in Lynchburg, bought a bottle of #7, Single barrel and gentleman jack. I'm a big fan too.

Just been playing with Boo Radley - nice guy, thanks Boo. Technical issues meant we were delayed starting. Eventually got going and played 5 holes and were all square. Server then kicked us out "lost opponent" or similar error, despite the fact our discord call stayed so it wasn't a loss of internet connection.
At this point I'm happy to concede as lost patience I'm afraid. Good luck in next round Boo.

Match play or stroke play scoring the match manually?

I originally started up stroke play and invited BooR but my shots were not showing for him, though all was working on my side. 2nd time around Boo setup the match and invited me and it was setup as match play. The error occurred when Boo hit a chip shot up to the green it wasn't at the end of the hole or anything like that.

In stroke play you were not in sync. If turn off turn order and on after a shot it usually syncs. Also, the player ahead can wait for the other to catch up

Branover moves on 3/2. He played a great first nine and I didn't think the match would last long. Had some connection issues on the back side and I think that threw him off or he felt sorry for how poorly I was playing :-). It was fun.

Just as a heads up when you are changing clubs on the screen do not go fast and do not roll through the putter to get back to the top. Go backwards through your irons. I don't know if this is a SkyTrak only issue or not, but when you roll through the putter to say get back to the 3-4-5 irons it will disconnect you.

Better bring your A game for whoever has Branover in round 3. This was a blast. Looking forward to the next one!

Just as another aside my computer once again didn't show the proper score but did end the game when it was supposed to.

It was a fun match with MainSt. He made it interesting on the back 9 for sure.
Sounds like my connection issues were my own fault. I don't typically bother changing clubs when I play solo, thought it would be nice for my opponents to know what was going on. I'll likely just stop switching clubs as it doesn't actually make any difference in gameplay.

Yeah I figured it would be. That's what happened when I played in the first round. I was the host in the first round as well. Great job again!

Just finished a fun, competitive match with wbond. I was lucky enough to prevail in the end. Great guy, really enjoyed the live play function. We too had some technical hiccups but were able to play uninterrupted for the most part by playing stroke play and manually keeping up with the match. Discord worked great as well, very useful app.

I will say this however, we both found ourselves questioning why we were playing a 6900 yard Par 70 for match play. Doesn't really encourage birdies or an aggressive match play style.

Yeah, hate to sound like a complainer... just my 2 cents. Because I certainly appreciate a match play tournament being organized. Great course design no question, one of the best on the game. It very accurately depicts what's well known as one of the most difficult golf courses in the world. Haha

We were so so close to using fox run. Next time we'll do a different course. Pine Valley is one of the highest rated TGC courses which is why we picked it. Next time.

Haha! I'm never going to live the fox chapel thing down I think. No doubt, Pine Valley is for sure a great RCR. Craig is a wizard. Like I said, still a fun event. Thanks for putting it together. Looking forward to the next match.

Not really complaining, Someone will alway be unhappy with something somewhere. I just imagined more of a shoot out course vs a grinder, The deep bunkering on PV was rough on me I guess!! LOL... again.. thanks for setting this up. You did have a foursome play The Meadows today live!!!!
