anyone find some good priced but good quality turf for the rest of the room -- I have a 15x25 room that I want to put turf onto my concrete basement floor and then cut in an area for my truestrike system. I live in wisconsin if that helps with any local options for people in teh midwest.

I am looking at turf options as well. A good nylon turf is going to cost you $4 per sf minimum. Most all of the turf is made in GA, and so you are also looking at shipping charges. It can get pricey depending on the area that you need covered. A couple years ago I bought 15 x 15 piece for a putting green in my basement. The turf is high end nylon and came from GA. I don't want to spend the coin on the same grade of turf for my sim area as it in not my dedicated putting area, and there are less expensive turfs that are still very good for a sim application (including putting). One I am looking at has a 5 mm foam backing on it that would be perfect for placing on concrete, which is where mine would be going since my sim is in the garage. Unfortunately, you do not have many options in WI (same here in MI) to get a deal on a remnant piece. I need a piece about 12 x 15 for my sim area, and will likely just bite the bullet on the turf I am looking at right now.

I know a fair bit about the different turfs and prices since I researched it before my prior purchase. You can overpay if you are not careful and dealing with the right people. You want to make sure you get top-tier turf and at a fair price. Do not buy online unless you know for sure what you are getting. I got a few samples and know who makes the product and the specs. A few different companies sell the same product under different branding. There are only so many places that make the actual turf in the US.

Let me know if I can answer any questions. And post on here if you find a good deal!

Care to share some general feedback on the brands you know about (and different names they are sold under)?

One of the top brands is Synthetic Turf International (STI) (also sold as GrassTex). STI and GrassTex turfs are made at the same mill in Dalton, GA (Grass Turf Mills). Everything appears to be owned by parent company Controlled Products, LLC. (see http://cpturf.com) I have the STI NP50 in my basement putting green. The stuff is top of the line indoor nylon putting turf. The turf I am considering for my simulator area in the garage is STI PL306 with a 5mm foam backing on it. It is not as pricey as the NP50, but would do very well in a simulator application. I have a sample of the PL306 and it is very nice. The NP50 would also obviously work very well, but does not come with the 5mm foam backing. The NP50 has a heavy rubber backing and I'm using a left over piece from my putting green on my concrete garage floor near my impact screen, and balls bounce off it pretty softly after hitting the screen.

The PL306 product goes by "One Putt" in the GrassTex line of turfs. I bought the NP50 from a STI rep in northern OH and he gave me really good pricing. I think the NP50 was around $5 SF (plus shipping) back in 2014 for a piece that was 15 x 15. He quoted me around $4 SF last year for the PL306. The PL306 is better than the entry level PL357 "Fast Putt" turf.

I have not gotten samples of other turfs, although I have read about Starpro and Synlawn turfs being nice. I cannot see them being any better, or costing any less than the turfs I mention above. Be careful where you go for pricing because there are places selling this stuff for much more than the prices I indicate above. You need to buy from an authorized STI rep for your area. I can give you the name of the person I dealt with and I am sure he can point you in the right direction. Just PM me.

I myself used this setup, then had to redo my floor. I am looking at using the Santa-Barbara-50-synthetic-grass-indoor-outdoor-carpet for the standing area and the Everlast packed with sand for the putting area when I get to where I can redo my floor again. You can setup the Everlast as a putting green fairly easily from what I have seen on it. Don't know if you have a Menards in your area or not, but they have some good sales from time to time.

I was thinking about buying horse stall matts. You need to buy them locally or freight kills you. Then go to buy remnants of synlawn to lay over the mats. My hope is that it's the same height as my CCE mat.

i know several gyms use these as it's much more affordable than options that are dedicated for this use.

So, I am assuming by placing the Synlawn or similar turf over these mats, you would then make a cut out to place a CCE into...making it a close to level with the turf? I have a 5x4 CCE, and looking at flooring options. allturfmats.com has some options, just not sure how good they are, and decently priced for a 10x15 piece

Exactly. I have a 5x5 cce hitting mat. I want to added synthetic grass to stop bounceback and add some grass for the putting area and I want it to be level with th cce mat. I need to verify that the horse stall mat is the correct thickness to look very close to my cce mat when I add non backed turf. I think it should be more affordable but not sure yet. Synlawn I was quoted 0.50 to 0.70 per square foot for remnants depending on size and turf type. Check out @aerobuner s thread on syn lawn. His setup looks awesome!

The base on the CCE mat is 3/4 inch or so. With the rubber mats, and a top turf cover, it would be very close to even and flush. it's an idea.
Update: Looked into the rubber mats (http://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/pro...ck-4-ft-x-6-ft). Sturdy, with really no cushion to them. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing for a sim, even with a Synlawn turf on top, but each mat is 96 lbs in weight.

That all true mat 10x15 piece turf is a pretty good price... anyone with any experience with it?

Wyzyguy bought but not installed with turf yet. Very heavy (close to 100 lbs). Very dense. If you have been in a gym, you likely have walked on the stuff and not realized it. I had interlocking foam tiles before. While not as firm, I was betting I would like the horse stall matts better.

I will still hit off my 5x5 cce, I am hoping this will be better on the concrete with syn lawn everywhere else.

Sounds like you have the makings of an awesome set up. A friend of mine uses those stall mats for his garage gym and it seems like it does dampen sounds a bit.

You run into any bad odors with the mats? anything that lingered for awhile?

No, but make sure you want them from a pallet left outside in the yard. I have heard horror stories of how badly they smell if you get "fresh" matts. They are in an enclosed garage now and you can not smell them at all.
