  • GC2 Megaflash

I have a batch of flashes assembled, tested, and ready to go. I have worked with Tretee on the JNPG forum on this design. He is a very skilled engineer with extensive flash design experience and test equipment. Here are the highlights of the new design.
1.) It will definitely work with serial numbers 4200 and above
    - This is the point when Foresight started shipping their newest driver circuit board. The new driver can handle more current than the old one. The Foresight Superflash requires the newest driver board because it uses a larger bulb that needs more current to flash. The Megaflash uses less current than a Superflash but more than the old style, so to be safe I am saying 4200 and above.
    - If you have a lower serial number and are interested in testing the Megaflash send me a PM for more info.
2.) It comes with a 1 year warranty
    - If it stops working within the first year I will send you a new circuit board that goes inside the housing for free. Foresight's Superflash has a prorated 1 year warranty
    - I expect it to last several years in a personal-use setting.
3.) The case has been designed to be reusable
    - It is 3D printed on a $200k industrial printer for the highest quality print that I could find. It has a matte texture but no visible layers or extrusions like personal printers
    - It has a glass infrared filter instead of a plastic one
    - The back can be removed to put a new circuit board in
4.) It has a life expectancy on par with the Superflash.
    - During longevity testing, we were able to run a bulb for over 2 million flashes which equates to 200k shots.
    - Each flash is tested for brightness on a light meter that I built to be brighter than the old design for reliable readings
    5.) A complete module costs $150.
    - If you bought one of my other designs, I will give you $10 off a new one.
    - Please add $10 for shipping to the UK and understand that it will take about 2 weeks to arrive. I can ship faster but cost will go up significantly.
6.) Additional circuit boards for inside will be $100/piece.
    - I am going to hold off on selling extra boards until I can get everyone who is interested a complete module

To purchase a flash, please send Paypal to gc2flash@gmail.com. Include your shipping address and forum username in the notes please. I will post when the first batch is gone. I have parts to build more so I will be replenishing my stock as they sell. If you have any questions, please post them below since other people may have the same question.

    • Is there a performance gain to be had with the Megaflash over the standard non superflash module?

It has a brighter flash than the standard one. When the standard one gets older, you may start to get more missed shots because light output gradually drops off and the cameras don’t get a clear picture of the ball. It is hard to say if it makes the readings more accurate just because you would need some secondary gold standard system measuring simultaneously to say for sure, but having more light should help image quality. The main performance benefit is just that you won’t have to get a new flash for a very long time

The tubes that you are using from here https://www.xenonflashtubes.com/flas...ulator_85.html are more delicate than the ones that I use in my flash. They get pushed close to their limit which shortens their life, and if you get oils from your fingers on them that can cause them to crack prematurely as well. The oils cause certain spots of the glass to heat up faster than others, and the mismatch in expansion can cause it to break. The reason my flashes can last much longer is the bulb is run at a much lower percentage of its max capacity. It will eventually fail from the bulb getting cloudy and the light levels dropping off rather than cracking.

I need to repair my older flash as it will take too long for Foresight to install a new flash board (told me today it will be at least 4 weeks). I can't get the xenonflashtubes site to work which suggests they may be out of business or don't service the UK???

Do you know of another solution that is comprable to the XFTR-1015-2300 Flash Lamp Miniature Assembly?

      Thanks

      • rdanh It looks like their website works for me in the US. It says worldwide shipping as well, so I'm not sure why it wouldn't work for you. I will also send you a PM

        • do you also sell those nice metal shank tanks and are they compatible with HMT?

That’s rotten luck! I will ship it out on Monday

        • Hi, looking for advice before ordering one of these, I have just purchased a second hand gc2 with serial number in the 4400s. The machine will struggle to read short chips and putting, putting is really bad. Then another time will read many in a row no problem. Last night for example I brought my unit inside to test on the carpet, it literally read 40 little chips and putts in a row no problem. I had a 2 minute break and did the same again, and it only read 5. Constantly showing the horizontal lines. Does this indicate that the flash module needs changing?

          Thanks

It could be a number of things. Some putters and chrome wedges can cause reflections that interfere with readings and will give dashes. So if you have a spare putter and can try an iron for the chipping that would help rule that out. I have had mine get in a weird state where it will just start missing putts and I need to hit a harder shot like a 20 yard pitch to get it out of that state. I’m guessing you don’t have a full setup since you just bought it, but maybe you could hang a blanket or stack up some pillows to hit a pitch into and see if that gets it working again. Also make sure the front foot is down, the GC2 is fully open, and you don’t have white shoes or shoes with reflective material (like some running shoes have). When you are putting and chipping you stand closer to the ball so shoes can become an issue. If none of that works, then the flash would be the next thing I would try. You may need a power board upgrade with your serial number to be compatible with my flash

        • Just purchased a GC2 with a serial number 108xx, would this be compatible with your flash unit Andy? Thanks

Yes, you should be good to go with the latest flash power board. If you want to double check though, I can send you instructions on how to open it up. It only takes a couple of minutes.

        • I would just like to put my thanks across on here to Andy for the excellent all round service.
I bought a used gc2 around 3 weeks ago, from the off I've been having problems with it when playing simulator golf, it would hardly ever read short chip shots and putts. Came across this thread when doing some reassarch, got in touch with Andy and a week later I received a mega flash and an upgraded board which Andy helped me identify is what was needed for my gc2 to go with the mega flash.

I installed yesterday as soon as they arrived, 4 of us then played for 7.5 hours straight and we didn't have one no read and it worked perfectly, I was beginning to think I'd been sold a dodgy gc2.

can't thanks Andy enough for the all round service.. If we continue to play 7.5 hour sessions then I may be in touch with Andy again quicker than most 🤣🤣

          ⛳️⛳️⛳️👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
