OKay, so I know it's a few weeks away yet but Masters week will quickly be upon us. I know we had some debate about course length etc relatively recently and talked about playing majors more like the real thing. Wondering if anyone else is up for playing the Masters at the real length. The pitch and putt version at 6300 just doesn't feel like the monster that place really is. Maybe it's the masochist in me, but I'd love to play that beast similar to real life that if I play my ass off i might be able to break 80. I played a quick practice round around the short one, hit the ball like crap and shot 78. Hit the ball like that on the real course, I don't break 120 and I'm made to look like the donkey I play like. Wondering what everyone else's thoughts are.

Please keep in mind that these tournaments need to be fun for everyone - long and short hitters included. Even though my game is getting better and my HC is coming down I still am happiest when I shoot a low score, regardless of how the rest of the field has done. Magnolia's greens are pretty accurate from what I remember. Tough greens + super long course = misery for most...

I would have no issue with the added length, I can always hit the extra shot. Only issue I would have is the carry. A forced 250 yard carry over whatever would probably take me out. I have no idea if Augusta has anything like that but it would be the same issue on any course for me.

Can you set up a lets take a vote, and go with the majority....Just face up to the fact. It would be like playing a pro am and hitting from the same tees as the pros, why do you think they use amateur tees. For good reason. . If you truly like getting beat up and shooting big numbers you will realize you CAN'T play with these guys......."These guys are good" that quote is for a reason !Originally posted by mthunt View PostWe have the ability to play 3 different lengths for the 3 rounds.
This is simulator golf....................just have fun and play @ 6500 yards or so and let everyone enjoy themselves. If you want to play Augusta @ 7600 yards , go for it (on your own)
...just look at the scores in the last few tournaments and see where the average scores fall.. more players play at the 63-6500 yard courses
just my own 2 cents

I like the 3 different length option. Would keep things more interesting and allows everyone to experience all the different versions which can be confusing to navigate tcg's search function. My courses:

Canyata
Cog Hill #4
Harbor Shores
Harborside
Naperville Country Club

No, please do not use sheer distance to wipe out the game of shorter hitters. It is no fun when an average 230yd drive won't even reach the fairway. There was a talk for setting up divisions a few months back. I think we will soon have the numbers to pursue that. No?

I am a short hitter - 210 is a good drive in on the SIM in real life I do get about 20 more yards - roll. Anyway, 6200-6500 yards is a sweet spot for me and think most of the tours should be in that length. However, for majors if we want longer I can live with that. I take back short hitter because most stats show I am about average if not better. For this crowd I am short but we have a lot of above average golfer here.

I like any length. Augusta on TGC rocks. I'm just happy to be playing such an awesome RCR of Augusta.
Plus now that I've "fixed" my GC2 setup, I'm actually hitting the ball without snap hooking everything.
Eventually we'll need TGC2 with mulitple tees, and tees set by handicap. But then the straight shooting, short knocker, scratch guy will bitch...

The three different lengths would be fun, so long as the final round is the real deal. I ALWAYS enjoy playing the exact same as the pros, because it just humbles me and shows me how really stinking good these guys are, but I always like to think that if I practiced and played as much as they did and had the resources that had I could be too :-). I don't mind the three rounds, but at least one of them needs to be the real deal. It's the MASTERS after all. But I do agree that the schedule needs to be a mix for all of us. We've had back-to-back weeks of very playable courses. Make the one leading up to it and the one after it playable.
