Where did you see a gtx 780 for a grand in Canada? The 980 is less than $700 from my searching and would be a very high end card. The 970 gets great reviews is about $400 and in some tests beats the 780.

Sorry. I listed the price for the R9 by mistake. It was Tiger Direct. I'll pick up the 970 tomorrow. Looks good.

What are your guys settings?

I'm trying to get the best picture I can.

Currently I have detail on high, object at 3, trees (both) around 300-315, vsync off, AA on, and depth of field off.

I feel depth of field makes it look fuzzy more than any better.

I have some flickering on the trees in the distance when the camera pans. I am hoping to minimize this.

I have adaptive v-sync forced on through nVidia control panel. Running on SLI GTX 660's.

Any video card experts know how to minimize this flickering? I have enough horse power for the graphics, but I'm hoping I can fix this, without getting rid of my SLI.

I have same settings same as yours except vsync is on and DOF is on. Not forcing adaptive vsync.

Yes, that card will work. You might have to run at medium with certain courses.

My pc has an amd 8350 processor, amd r9 290 graphics card, and 8 gb ram. I have tgc set at high, detail at 3, trees at 300 or less. When I was playing pine valley blue tees hole 8 tonight the course was really messed up. It was like the ball was below the ground and I was looking at the framework of the course and everything was multicolored. I had to back out of the server once because of lag as well. Is this a graphics card issue or was there an issue with the server/internet? I have played pine valley before with no issues.

The lag could have been due to server issues. The graphics could have been the pc. Did a restart fix it?

I have read through this thread many times. I know nothing about gaming computers. I am going to have one built to run my Protee 2 with TGC. Will the following make it run perfectly or should I upgrade something.

Get a SSD - Solid State Drive as your main drive for the OS and programs.

They are faster than traditional hard drives. That will improve the performance of the system that you've spec'd.

128 GB is a reasonable enough size for the SSD.

Also make sure that you've got a decent i7 spec as well.

If you have a micro center nearby they offer great deals on intel processors. You can usually get the i7 at i5 prices. aja is right about the solid state drive. Your puter will boot up 200% faster.

I agree on the SSD, but if the video card is the bottle neck, how much difference does an i7 provide over one of the better i5's?
