No indention at all. It is 100% cosmetic and the turf has no loss of height at all in the strike area.

Ok guys, so I ordered the two 12"x35" strips of the 3D mat from Steven at YGT on Aug 26 and received them on Sep 8. Not bad at all. I've since had some time to play on it quite a bit and I have to say I like it. Coming from Fiberbuilt there was a little bit of adjustment, but fat shots are still penalized. It's not like a hard driving range mat where you can get almost the same distance from a slightly fat shot as you can with a clean shot. I think the Fiberbuilt also penalizes you on distance, but on a shot that is very slightly fat you can definitely get away with it more on the Fiberbuilt. The 3D mat doesn't grab the club or anything, but it is immediately more evident to me when I hit it slightly fat compared to the Fiberbuilt. I also have my setup outdoors at the moment and the hitting strip is sitting on the ground next to my stance mat. I cut the ground down a little bit to make it level with my stance mat, but I didn't do a very good job and I think I made myself a little bit of a divot action mat, haha. There's a little space under the mat in the middle so it gives it a little bit of extra give. When I move my setup indoors I might try to recreate this because I'm going to have to put something under it anyway to bring it up to the level of my raised floor. Anyway, I like it so far and have no pain like I experienced with my CCE mat. Putting is also way better off this mat than the Fiberbuilt.Comment

how difficult is it to cut the ygt-3d to size?
i’m about to order a hitting strip for my fiberbuilt 5x4 directly from china, and i need a piece that is 12.25” x 46.5”.
should i order the exact size I need, or order it oversized, and cut it myself?

it can be cut. it is not super easy because of the 3 different layers but not impossible either
i cut a full size mat into a 1x4 strip

I cut a strip for the Fiberbuilt tray too. The cut edge isn’t perfect...again the layers add some difficulty.
I just put the factory edge against the stance mat, and the cut edge faces away from me against the tray. Looks fineComment

I bet you could use a table saw and get a nice clean cut. I used a box cutter and it is not as straight a cut was I would like but is very manageable

linkkingx thanks for sharing. Does anyone place any underlay beneath this hitting strip? I have a concrete floor so am concerned about jarring the wrists and elbows. Happy to put foam or rubber mats as underlay but not sure with comments about this mat being very absorbent to club strikes whether underlay beneath that would be overkill or not.Originally posted by linkkingx View PostComment

Interesting reading through this thread, and I agree that everyone has different needs and feel for the mat. I have the FB 5x4 mat, and while I like it - I was almost always hitting fat shots on it (I can see it with the Uneekor swing video). I kept wondering why my club distance was a club or two short until I noticed the club just starting to drag through the bristles. I rarely ever hit fat shots IRL. For me, it seems like it's because the top of the hitting surface just looks like a 2D flat plane with no texture or depth in my sim. In one respect, I think it's helped me adjust my swing in a positive way as I just went to the range and the same swing changes were great there, but I really have to focus on picking it clean rather than hit down through the ball/mat which I don't like.
I also have fairly constant pain in my left side of the chest - lower left pectoral to the left side of the rib cage. I think it's because hitting fat shots on the FB - while maybe forgiving for the shot distance - is harder on the muscles there as you're essentially pulling the club through those bristles. One of the bigger things I've also noticed is when you watch the swing video of the club through impact, as soon as any part of the club hits the bristles, the face path changes if the club is not dead flat to the surface of the strip. If your heel or toe hits just before the opposite end, the face angle changes by several degrees just as when you contact the ball left or right on the face. This happens at impact too, if you're coming into the 'grass' just as you're making contact with the ball. I know this happens IRL, but not to this degree.
I'm considering giving this Quattro / China hitting strip a shot. Anyone have a strip that they cut out of a full mat for sale? If not, I'll ping Stephen in the next week or so.Last edited by leibin; 12-22-2020, 09:58 PM.Comment

leibin / did you end up ordering one of these ? I’ve got some annoying rib and wrist pain as well and am considering another mat. I have the Swing Turf from rain or shine which is softer than a CCE, but is slowly killing my ribs and wrists and I’m looking for other options. I was considering FB as the leading option but it sounds like the mats mentioned in this thread may be even better.
