  • Best mat I've ever hit off of, wow!

I'm in the process of building my golf sim and have been using old mats from when I was a Golf Course Superintendent. I'm a 50 year old with a 10 handicap with the old system...if that matters. I've also got a wrist that is so bad that when the doctors look at my MRI, they all say...wow, that's impressive since it's so bad. So yes, I need all the cushioning I can get if I want to hit a couple hundred balls at a time off a mat and live to tell about it.

I purchased a CCE mat after reading about it here on this site and ordered through Costco for $450. Then I went to my old club where I was the Super....and they bought new mats which changed everything for me. They were so good that the next day I called the Pro to ask what he purchased. It's the Quattro Mat from Wittek Eagle One....a company I used to buy things from so I was familiar with them. Top notch products for sure.

So I ordered one and will be returning my CCE mat back even before I try to compare. I paid $399 for the Wittek Quattro plus another $100 for shipping. Next day after I ordered (ouch), they went on sale for $325. Get yours now.

Just thought I'd throw this post out there for others that are old and have pain like I do so that there is a solution...the Quarrto!

    Play well.

  • So the mat arrived late last night and I was able to set it up today. Other than a crease down the middle (which I hope will eventually go away) I'm happy with it. It's soft enough that I had no pain after hitting about 60 balls today. I tried a PRGR swing monitor and it seemed to be giving consistent readings that I get at the driving range, so that's a plus as well. I still want a SkyTrak though because I believe it's readings will be more accurate versus the PRGR and I can see the flight path on a computer.

    • I need to buy a mat ... fiberbuilt lead time is too long. Considering this Quattro or Rain or Shine option ... anybody have any idea if Quattro will go on sale again??

Me too. Is this still available

    • Anyone in Canada still have strips for sale?
This has got to be way better than the $100 3-in-1 mat I'm returning to Sportchek.

I need something to strike the ball off of in the garage. What inexpensive material could I combine with it to use as my stance mat?

Probably gonna combine everything on a sheet of plywood countoured by 1x1 wood. That way I can pick it move and move it out of the way when not in use.

      Thanks.

JeepKing39 - these mats may be too thick to do that? I've seen videos of a guy building a simulator and doing that with plywood, but it was very cheap (artificial carpet/turf) that he stapled to the plywood after wrapping it around.

In a similar position trying to find out what the best option here is for a gargae sim in Canada. With snow 8 months out of the year finding something I can easily move is important. If you find anything let me know. I likely have to go with a strip and two stance mats to figure out all the lefties and righties in this country. Wasn't sure if the Quattro would be even an option for that.

    • So, I'm going on a year and a half...zero signs of wear and tear. No slumping from being soft, only pure turf remains. The tee's got bent after many thousands of bombs but they're still going just fine.

I'm really stoked people have tried these out and like them as well! There really is nothing to dislike about the mat if you ask me.

You're welcome players, and Wittek Eagle One! Can I get some sort of discount for sending you business? Just kidding....you've always been good to me.

This mat has taken my game to the next level and I use it just about every day.

      Get out there and play....

      • DISAGREE on Quattro. Had it three months and have had hand pain the ENTIRE time. Just my experience.

        • Yeah it’s a pretty common theme with any of the mats, what works great for some doesn’t for others.

          • For what it’s worth I’ve had shoulder issues using mats in the past. Went with the fiberbuilt studio set up. Haven’t had any issues. Visited a friend recently who bought one of the package deals from rain or shine and the mat it came with is causing some elbow issues.

            • How's the sound level of this mat? I find the divotaction way loud for me.

Wow - thanks for that feedback... never heard that one... when is it loud, specifically? When hitting all the time, or only when taking divots?

            • so you all think the Quattro mat will be much better than a used driving range mat. The driving range mat does not cause me pain but i do want to get the most realistic mat for practice.

Nope, probably divot-action or one of it's look alikes: 1.) Holy Grail Mat, 2.) SIG Pro Softy I think it's called, etc. Especially if you want to save your wrists?

            • What about the Country Club elite. I am thinking about replacing my used driving range mat. It does not cause me pain Just want to get the most realistic practice.

It's the most-returned / traded mat I see discussed on these forums due to pain. I'd never had joint pain on a mat before either, but I had the CCE for 20 days and returned it within the return period as I immediately started to feel elbow and rib pain I'd never had before. I'd stay away from that one, it's just too unforgiving over time if you want to get a bunch of reps in at home. Fiberbuilt, TrueStrike, DivotAction are all commonly discussed as among the most forgiving (plus the Quattro discussed here). I'd shop from that list to take best care of your body in the long-term.

I previously posted here that I started with CCE. Switched to Quattro. Was a meaningful improvement. Quattro won't take a real tee, but many tee options available. It is more forgiving than CCE, but still a bit tough on fat shots. I don't get any pain from it and generally happy. I've played over 100 rounds and it doesn't show any wear. I have not tried any of the mats with inserts.

            • ok thank you

              • Since you already have a stance mat, one more idea to consider Rlefig is Divot Action's add-on mat (Called Divot Action To-Go). I started using one a few months ago and really like it. I started out with another mat that wasn't my favorite (too firm, caused pain after long sessions), and the cost of the "To-Go" add on is hard to beat ($250) if you already have another mat to stand on and I've found it incredibly forgiving on the body and accurate in terms of spin and distance.

myrison - ok, good to know on the SwingTurf mat... Wow 90-120 minutes can be a lot of ball-beating! Going at it solid for that amount of time... I would just play simulator rounds of golf, maybe hit a handful of drivers, irons and wedges through the bag at some local Sims and would come home with sore wrists, really bad... Until, I played on a ProTee system that a local Sim shop used, they usually have Fiberbuilt built into (screwed on) to the ProTee sensors and my wrists felt just fine. That's how I realized that Fiberbuilt was really good for my wrists, with my swing mechanics...

So, I purchased a used ProTee system, about 2 years ago now, and have it all ready to drop in to my finished Sim build, it even has 4-5 different hitting mats that I could interchange if I want to, but no need, as I would like to lay down a hitting strip area next to the ProTee sensor to hit from with my Garmin Approach R10 (claims to have a 2' x 2' hitting area that it can read with radar)...

I like what Divot Action is doing with the multiple turf types on one mat, as I really want to have rough, heavy rough, fairway, and even the 'sand' option that they show, though I see now Fiberbuilt makes a 'sand' mat too.

I still wonder how much give there is in a divot action - as their little demo-video looks like it's a chip shot??? Also, the 'to go' that you have, does that have as much give, or less give than a standard divot action, there doesn't seem to be any type of comparison on their website? I would like to see a pic of your setup, it seems the to go clips onto an existing stance mat, is that right? Not sure that will work for me, as I will have a raised floor, and will need one of the strips... is it really that loud?

Thanks again, for helping me decide...

Hey Brettster. I just made a separate post with pictures and videos and a review of the DivotAction ToGo mat. Figured it'd make more sense than burying in this mega thread.

I thought I'd share my experience with this mat as I haven't seen it talked about a lot on the forums (or if so I've missed it). What is it? DivotAction (DA) is a very forgiving golf hitting system that relies on a strip of turf suspended over the base of the mat but a set of spring clips. Even if you're a heavy downward

Thanks myrison - exactly what I wanted to see and hear and thanks for moving it out to a separate post too.

              • We just added to our store new mat, Tri-Lie. Its a 3 in one piece. Great addition to existing mats to simulate different grass from fairway to thick grass

                Comment

                • Wittek Golf - thanks, could you tell us a little more about the 3 types of grass? From the link it says 1.) 40mm (about 1 1/2"), 2.) 35mm (about 1 1/4", 3.) 15mm (about 5/8").

My guess is 1 is thick/hard grass that takes a turf (like CCE or something similar)

2 is the 'real grass' turf, with actual blades of grass that make it like hitting off real rough turf, instead of fairway every time - please mention more about how much penalty an average golfer would see from fat/thin shots of this turf (and the LM used)?

3 is the 'fairway like' turf, that is like playing off perfect fairway grass which I rarely do, as I'm usually in first cut/rough after tee shot! Also, it appears your missing a 'first cut' turf?

Price is certainly good at $99.99, but I would wonder about the 'hardboard' that is under the turf? I would prefer some type of padding (or none at all), so I could mount this to a hitting strip.

The thickest turf pictured on the right side of the turf best simulates the Wittek Mega Mat. You are able to hit off a wood tee, and when you hit directly off of the mat you can really feel a fat shot. The middle turf is a softer grass where you could bury the ball into the grass and really get a good simulation of hitting out of the rough or just thicker grass off the fairway. Then the thinnest turf can simulate a fairway shot, but like you I am not there as often as I would like either!

The hard board under the turf is flexible, durable, and only about an inch thick. It was added to our line as an add on to a simulator, or alongside one of our mats.
