So I read on another forum that Perfect Golf for Skytrak should be ready once the public release is live on steam, which is about 3-4 weeks away, for what it's worth.

That would definitely challenge what I heard from a high up at sport trak just last week. I was told 7-10 days and based on the job title I would expect that. I won't say specifics on names, but I checked them on LinkedIn and I can't imagine they could say 7-10 days and instead it was 3-4 weeks from release.

In the absence of any demos from TGC or PG I bought them both on steam to see how they compare against each other. Its a cheap way of getting a feel for each game.
I'd already had TGC on steam for quite some time as I'd previously wanted to take a look at course creation. I tried PG for the first time tonight, I wasn't expecting that it would stack up against TGC as that seems to have all the momentum. I was pleasantly surprised. TGC is known for its great graphics but I think PG matches it, if not surpassing it. When playing them back to back TGC feels like the contrast is too high - like watching a TV when all the actors all have orange faces. The PG colours seem more natural. PG gameplay was easier although this is irrelevant for sim play. Id also like to shut up the commentary in TGC, no doubt that's an option. TGC feels more video gamey.
I'm pleased that there are 2 genuine options to go with (assuming they can both chip and putt). For me it could well come down to price. If PG is half of TGC that will be mighty tempting.
If no demos get released then I'll base my decision on the reviews of those that see them at the PGA show or wait until theres youtube footage. Like everyone I'm eager to get SIM play but at the same time I don't want to rush in and make a rash decision that I later regret. I also have to weigh up how important some features really are to me, I want to be able to play rounds against my son and TGC can't provide that (either multiple tees or powerboost for a player would address that) but would I forfeit that if theres no one online to play against (say everyone goes TGC for instance)?
For me E6 is out of the running, the graphics are outdated, the greens and fairways are ok but the rough/bushes/trees can be impossible, I've also hit my longest drives ever on E6 (excl. Optishot) which tells me its b/s. Then theres the pricing.
